Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Awards Gala 2025: Lifetime Honour for Industry Visionary Alexandre de Brito e Cunha
Antigua and Barbuda has paid tribute to one of its most influential tourism leaders, honouring the late Mr Alexandre de Brito e Cunha with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Tourism Awards Gala.
Mr de Brito e Cunha, whose career in hospitality began in 1987 at Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic, was celebrated for nearly four decades of service to the regional tourism industry. His contributions were described as pivotal to the development and resilience of the Antigua & Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA), where he served as Chairman and a longstanding Board Member.
Throughout his career, he was known for championing mentorship, elevating service standards, and guiding the sector through its most challenging periods, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Colleagues credited him with fostering unity, strengthening industry partnerships, and leaving “an imprint of excellence” on the twin-island nation’s tourism landscape.
The award was accepted by his wife, Mrs Yovanni de Brito e Cunha, and their sons, Henrique and Hansel, who received a standing ovation from industry peers. The family said the recognition reflected not only his professional accomplishments but also his lifelong belief in developing people and building a stronger, more resilient tourism sector.
Organisers described his legacy as one that continues to shape the industry, inspiring new generations of hospitality professionals across Antigua and Barbuda.
