Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Tourism, Charles “Max” Fernandez, has expressed sorrow over the death of American businesswoman Karen Johansson, who was attacked on Runaway Beach several weeks ago and later died from her injuries.
In a statement, Mr Fernandez offered condolences to Johansson’s family on behalf of the government and people of Antigua and Barbuda, describing her as a valued contributor to the tourism sector.
He said Johansson was well known for providing horseback riding experiences along the island’s coastline and had a strong personal connection to Antigua, which she shared with visitors.
Johansson’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief within the tourism community, where she was regarded as welcoming and dedicated to promoting the island.
Mr Fernandez said the government was closely following the police investigation into the attack, stressing that it must be handled with urgency. He also noted that Johansson was a registered organ donor, saying her final act would help save lives.

I spoke to her a few day after she got back from her visit to her home land. ( “ I bought binoculars to see even more of this lovely view”). She was really excited, thanking me for checking up on her. I help to move her to a new location. And this woman was full of life. She even gives me her life story from back home. I will miss her energy he smile her laugh. I still have her voice note I will cherish forever. Sleep on my friend you probably already know the number of lives you have change.
The attack happened on Dickenson Beach NOT Runaway Beach and it was on Friday December 19th NOT several weeks ago. Get your facts straight before you publish!!!!!
