POLICE COMMUNITY DAY

Royal Police Force Engages Public in Crime-Fighting Initiative

Members of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda took to the streets on Wednesday to engage members of the public as part of their crime-fighting initiative.

The event was led by Commissioner of Police, Atlee Rodney, who spearheaded the effort with his senior officers distributing crime prevention and fire safety brochures in various communities across the island.

This initiative coincided with the 2024 Police Week activities and was well received by the public. The event, dubbed “Police Community Day,” aimed to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the community.

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda remains committed to proactive community engagement and looks forward to further initiatives to ensure all residents’ safety and security.

  1. Let me say it again. Invest in more police vehicles. Officers come to work sign or clocked in, receive their briefing and with two per vehicle sets out on patrol. Remember the zones I spoke of earlier ie Old road to Johnsons point, Bolans to Crab hill, Golden grove school to Radio light house, All Saints to American road, Bendals road to big creek etc. These should be highly marked police vehicles patrolling up and down some times parking on the side and patrolling on foot mingling and getting to know the villagers they are protecting. Periodically the big guys in the photo above may do an unexpected drive by, then at the end of each shift a report is made. No more should I have to drive from Buckleys to town without seeing a police vehicle and I was made to understand we finally got some police radio, great! Sitting at the station waiting for calls, then trying to find vehicle to get to an incident should be no more.

  2. Good move. However, may I sugguest that this is done in specific cummunities by the officers serving that cummunity. It will help not only persons to get to know the officers but also the reverse. This connectuion is needed in order to fight crime.
