Admitting that his less aggressive approach to the administration of the police force failed, Police Commissioner Wendel Robinson has committed to rule with a rod of iron this year.
“I should have been more aggressive in 2017 in terms of my strategy,” Robinson said reflecting on the spike in homicides and robberies last year.
But he said aggression comes with its own set of challenges.
“I was very aggressive in 2015 although that came with a price because some officers thought I was too aggressive and too rough,” he told state media.
The police commissioner said he lessened his aggression in 2017 “and it did not work.”
The country recorded 20 murders last year and Robinson said robberies were also up even though he did not provide specifics.
But he said malicious damage and break-ins were down.
Speaking on his third anniversary as head of the police, Robinson said the empowerment of officers has been one of this major achievements.
“We have had over 450 promotions. Last year we would have trained over 364 officers,” he boasted.
Robinson said he is satisfied with his performance over the past three years.
Robinson was appointed the head of the Royal Police Force on January 15, 2015.

that is so true too many police are friends with drug lords some that I see with my own too many times especially police in ranking. you need to deal those first especially the one that love to beat on their wife or girlfriend, do something about those too.
All the Vincentians police were promoted to top positions and turned the force into an ALP enforcer unit. All you need to do is focus on your job and weed out the corrupt cops and stop pick up cudral for labour party.
The best thing this commish can do for the police force and Antigua is RESIGN.
