Tian Winter Responds to Judging Concerns Following Soca Monarch Victory

Soca Monarch winner Tian Winter has responded to criticism and concerns raised about the judging of this year’s competition, calling for a focus on unity, growth, and musical excellence.

In a statement shared on social media, Winter addressed what he described as a recurring narrative that emerges whenever he wins.

“When Tian lose the competition is judged fairly, as soon as Tian win the judges thief,” he wrote, accompanied by laughing emojis.

His remarks follow online discussions questioning the outcome of the 2025 Soca Monarch finals, with some fans suggesting the judging may have been biased. However, Winter appeared unbothered by the chatter and instead used the moment to recognise all competitors and advocate for higher standards across the industry.

“Big up to all the artist in the entire competition, from quarters to finals,” he continued. “Let’s focus on raising the standard and making timeless music and getting our music out to the masses. Manners and Respect.”

Winter’s response has resonated with supporters who view his comments as a mature and constructive approach to post-competition controversy. He has long been one of the island’s most decorated and respected soca artists, known for his powerful vocals and polished performances.

The Soca Monarch competition is one of the most anticipated events of Antigua Carnival, and judging outcomes often spark passionate debate. Despite the criticism, Winter’s response has helped shift the conversation toward artistic integrity and unity within the soca community.

  1. Tian, I am one of your biggest fans…….but you were not the winner of the “Groovy” segment WITH ALL DUE RESPECT. Ofcourse we have to respect the judges decision because it can’t be changed now. Oh and the MATURE thing you should have done…was keep your mouth shut. Your arrogance was showing its ASS in the comments you made…….take your crown dear because you know deep down that you did not deserve the “Groovy” crown. Things will never change in this country. You All need to stop it because it’s CRIPPLING the art form.

  4. I will make a general statement. It is time all Antiguan artists understand that our music will and can only go forward together. The more performers who can break through, the better and more positive for the music industry in Antigua. When the world thinks of soca artists they think immediately of Trinidad and maybe Barbados. Since Burning Flames has done no real music for about 10 years, Antigua is never mentioned. It is like when the Tourism Authority go to promote, they do not promote one segment of the industry. They promote that name, the brand, Antigua and Barbuda. None of the present soca singers, including Tian and Claudette can make it internationally on their own. Let Antigua’s music and performers go out there and then eventually all the good ones will benefit. Plenty of people are jumping up about songs that will not be heard again after carnival. Very little has any music. They are mostly singing to a beat that they have bought with jump, wave, wine up, raise your flag. No real music. No brass which is an important part of soca and calypso music. Put on any Swallow song and you will see the difference. Elevate our imagination and music. Think internationally and not 108 square miles. And rejoice in each other’s success.

  5. Typically Antiguan’s: I was at the show last night. Tian won hands down. You want to know what he did to win that competition last night? He had two strong songs. He used his experience and he understood the criteria. He was very consistent. There were no errors on his part. Congratulations tian winter. Continue to support the artform. Continue to work with the up coming artist, even when the same artist talk negative. One day they to will remember your name. Powers!!

  6. Like the point about raising the standard and quality our music, big up on that.
Now to the judgement and it’s as if they had this crowning down even before carnival started. Look at the presentation of the trophies and even before the announcements you can see the expression on my girl Empress face as if she knew before hand what’s to come.
Move to the other side and Tian expression was everything already in the bag.
We as spectators been having issue with this judging since the Groovy semi’s when Tian walked on, did his gospel thing with no props then walked off with total confidence.
I remembered stated back then if Tian passed with that tune then Nature kid should’ve also went through with his gospel tune, but i guess CP stepped aside and Tian might be doing likewise, so they decided to send him off big.
Empress your voice was made for this so keep holding it down.
