Thursday Declared National Day Of Prayer and Fasting, Not Public Holiday

4

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda today joined with the Evangelical Alliance, other religious bodies and Churches to declare Thursday, March 26, 2020, “A Day Of National Prayer and Fasting.”

It is proposed that everyone spends time during the day praying for the protection of the Almighty from the dreadful consequences, globally and locally, of the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19. For those who are sufficiently healthy and can endure hours of fasting, it is proposed that strong and healthy men and women deny themselves solid foods during the daylight hours. Many Christians are already fasting during the Lenten season.

Praying can take place at each worker’s desk; by taxi-drivers while seated idly awaiting passengers; by the very sick in their hospital beds; by the pregnant mothers who are confined to their homes; by those who are quarantined and isolated. Thursday is A NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER AND FASTING. No churches are likely to gather on that day because of the 25-person limitation imposed by social distancing rules.

Please be advised that Thursday is NOT a Public HolidayAll government employees who are sufficiently healthy and displaying no symptoms of the COVID-19 are to report for work on Thursday, March 26, 2020. Private sector workers are also to report for work on Thursday, March 26, 2020.

  1. Prayer is nice and fine but action saves lives. Close the borders? If we do not, prayer will not save us from the virus.

  2. If we can receive a public holiday to revelry in the streets to the prince of this world (Satan), then why we can’t get a day to march around Antigua and Barbuda praying to our Creator for help. At work and praying which some of us normally do every day.

2 Chronicles 7:14 King James Version (KJV)
    14. If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

  3. Why do we need a day of prayer.Prayer is not ever a bad thing. However, after praying, then what. Are we going to go back to our awfully bad ways.
