The UWI Seismic Research Centre (SRC) has reported three moderate earthquakes in the northeastern Caribbean between late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, the latest in a string of seismic activity affecting the region.
The first quake, with a magnitude of 3.9, struck at 10:04 p.m. (local time) on October 28, about 52 km north of St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, at a depth of 22 km.
A second tremor, registering 3.8, was recorded at 12:13 a.m. on October 29, located 261 km east-southeast of Antigua, at a shallow depth of 10 km.
The third and strongest of the three, measuring 4.1, occurred at 2:42 a.m., roughly 282 km east of Antigua, also at a depth of 10 km.
All events were automatically recorded by the SRC’s monitoring systems, which cautioned that these preliminary results are subject to revision pending analyst review. There have been no reports of damage or injuries.
