A weekend burglary at the AIDS Secretariat on Long Street left the government office without several appliances and other supplies.
The property was discovered missing when the building reopened at about 7 a.m. Monday. The office had reportedly been secured around 9 p.m. Saturday.
Among the items taken were a television, an air-conditioning unit, two pairs of shoes, a jacket, sanitary products, coffee and eggs.
Evidence at the scene indicated that six glass louvres had been removed from a window on the building’s western side. An effort was also made to bend the security bars, but that attempt failed.
It remains unclear how the burglars eventually got inside. Once in the building, they reportedly broke into the accountant’s office and went through the premises.
Checks of the surrounding area did not turn up any of the missing property. The matter remains under investigation.

Nowhere is off-limits to thieves these days. If they can break into God’s houses (churches) and steal, a little secretariat is nothing. We are now at the stage of our development in Antigua and Barbuda where security mechanisms must be an integral part of ever operation. It’s a great risk to set up any operation without the necessary security apparatus.
Just want to say how proud I am of Ms Dowdye, competing in the 100m semifinals. She was actually competing against some well established names on the track scene, like Amy Hunt, Lewis, Hobbs, etc and with no fear she held her own. Was a bit disappointed when her block was left empty in the 200m, since with this line up, I believe she would’ve surprised herself. Keep working hard and pushing yourself Ms Dowdye and you will be ready for 2028.
They’re going to sell these items for less thay what they’re worth, whoever buying them just know that receiving stolen goods is a crime. There’s also word of a stash house where these items are taken and also someone buying the stolen goods to ship off to other islands so is its a criminal organization.
