This past Friday, September 19th, The UWI Five Islands Campus officially launched its First Year Experience Programme at the FIC Cafeteria, marking a pivotal moment in student development and campus life.
The atmosphere was exciting as students, faculty, and administrators gathered to witness this initiative that promises to revolutionize the university journey for first-year students.
This is not just another programme – this is about building tomorrow’s leaders right here in Antigua and Barbuda and across the OECS region.
FYE Coordinator Mr. Rhajhel Brown delivered insights about the proven success of this initiative across UWI campuses and universities worldwide. His call for students to fully embrace this opportunity resonated with the audience in attendance.

Campus Principal Professor C. Justin Robinson delivered a powerful message that went straight to the heart of what university education should be about. His emphasis on enriching the university experience beyond academics struck a chord with everyone present.
“We are not just educating students,” Professor Robinson declared, “we are molding the leaders of Antigua and Barbuda and the wider OECS.” His challenge to facilitators to give their absolute best reflects the campus’s unwavering commitment to excellence.
Perhaps the most compelling testimony came from Mr. Oshane Grant, who shared his transformative experience with the FYE programme at The UWI Mona.

His vivid account of how the programme enhanced his soft skills development and fostered lifelong friendships provided evidence of the programme’s life-changing potential. These are the stories that matter – real students, real growth, real impact.
The programme will run every Thursday during the specially designated four-hour block for clubs and societies, ensuring that students have dedicated time to fully engage with this transformative experience without academic conflicts.
This launch represents more than just another programme – it signals The UWI Five Islands Campus’s commitment to holistic student development and its recognition that true education extends far beyond lecture halls and textbooks.
As our first-year students embark on this journey, they are not just starting their academic careers; they are beginning a transformation that will shape them into the leaders our region desperately needs.
