Cabinet Notes: The Cabinet held a discussion about the future of LIAT.

A Cabinet sub-committee on LIAT was formed to include three ministers (Hon. Robin Yearwood, Hon Molwyn Joseph and Hon. Lenox Weston).

The three have been directed to follow LIAT’s progress by meeting with decision-makers and reporting back to Cabinet.

The resources to keep LIAT flying are being provided solely by Antigua and Barbuda, utilizing resources borrowed more than one year ago for the purpose of re-capitalizing the airline.

The closure of the U.S. Embassy in Barbados impacts the movement of people to and from that country, and the connectivity which visa applicants require.

  1. I admire the Antiguan government for trying to keep LIAT flying but because of covid, all airlines are bleeding money. It is a difficult time to be in the airline business. We need LIAT so I hope things get better.

  3. The question is would the Cabinet approve a start up business from the EDP that will bleed money like LIAT because the entrepreneur has confidence?

    The EDP approval rate is miserable all factors considered. Start up businesses need some of this cash LIAT is burning, to keep the economy ticking.

  4. As a major support of LIAT for decades it hurts me to see this effort bleed money and the waste. Single digit passengers because the booking engine is rubbish. Website keep saying 404 FORBIDDEN ERROR. Not a single Travel Agent on each Island has been appointed. No arrangements to thru book with an International Carrier. LIAT was always the premier connecting airline, they understood connectivity, they understood thru Fares between three points ! Its a shambles burning $17000 per day because no one is in charge !

  5. LIAT needs Leadership. There is an old Administrator who doesn’t know one crap about running an airline. Then you have a bunch of wats of time so called Executes who are just that. Waste of time. They are busy taking each other’s head off instead of working together to save the airline.

    All being “lead” by a blind uneducated flight attendant from Trini , turned exec, kicked out of exec. She have them rapped around her tiny finger which is even larger than her brains. That company needs an entirely new management team urgently. Young, educated, energetic persons who has experience.
