
His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda, today joined other national leaders in a special celebration marking the 25th Anniversary of the Cuba–Antigua and Barbuda Medical Collaboration.
The ceremony was held at the Parliament Building and featured the opening of a photographic exhibition honouring the Cuban Medical Brigade’s unwavering service to the twin-island nation.
In addition to the Governor General, other dignitaries in attendance included the Prime Minister the Honourable Gaston Browne, Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment, The Honourable Sir Molwyn Joseph, Leader of the Opposition Honourable Jamale Pringle and Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba.

Delivering the keynote remarks, the Governor General hailed the 25-year collaboration as a shining example of solidarity, resilience, and humanity, noting that Cuban doctors arrived not just as medical professionals, but as heroes who stood by Antigua and Barbuda through hurricanes, pandemics, and times of great need.
“This photographic exhibition is not merely a collection of images; it is a testament to resilience, solidarity, and humanity,” said Sir Rodney. “Cuba’s generosity has fortified our health systems, expanded access to care, and ignited a spirit of collaboration that transcends borders.”
His Excellency Sir Rodney also emphasized that Cuba’s support to Antigua and Barbuda extends well beyond the healthcare sector, citing invaluable technical assistance in road works, education, and public utilities.
He expressed the heartfelt appreciation of the People of Antigua and Barbuda, stating:
“Together, Cuba and Antigua and Barbuda have carried the weight of hope, and today, we celebrate how that hope has blossomed into a legacy of life.”
The exhibition, mounted in the Parliament Building lobby, documents the many contributions of the Cuban Medical Brigade through moving imagery, offering a visual reflection of 25 years of dedication, partnership, and progress.
Following the ceremony, attendees viewed the exhibition which is open to the public.
