The Company That Fixed Royal Antiguan Wants To Spend Forty Million Fixing Rex Resorts

11

The Cabinet reported today that it held a discussion on the proposal by Sunwing Group to partner with Rex Resorts to rehabilitate and to grow the Halcyon Hotel.

It is estimated that the company will spend nearly US$40 million to upgrade the Halcyon Hotel similar to what has been done by Sunwing with the rundown Royal Antiguan.

Halcyon will remain a Government-owned property leased to Sunwing and Rex Resorts, according to the government.

Sunwing recently opened the new Royal Antiguan Resort that recently hosted the OECS Heads of Government meeting and is currently hosting Showcase Antigua Barbuda.

It is reported that many of the participants, during the OECS Meetings, expressed great surprise at the magnificence of the property.

    • Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock! In this the International Decade for People of African Descent 2015 -2024, we all need more than “a little fix up”, (from living with, some 380 years of Enslavement, 186 years of Emancipation, 68 years of Adult Suffrage, 52 years of Statehood Autonomy, 38 years of adopting a British Made Constitution for Independence), for Reparatory & Restorative Justice to get over the bamboozlement, confusion, spookism, and superstition that continue to hold Afro-Caribbeans in fee simple to black disorientation, decenteredness, and lack of agency!
The Governments of Antigua & Barbuda (A&B), Barbados (BGI), Grenada (GND), St. Lucia (SLU) and Trinidad & Tobago (TnT) have neither been accountable nor transparent! They have all left the People of African Descent to their own devices, be they sim cards, memory chips, neglected education or human grey matter, to search the British Archives, Hansard, and Nancy Stories to comprehend the long term contracts between the Caribbean Governments listed above, The British Foreign Office, The Department for International Development and REX Resorts which is one of the world’s most secretive and colonial enterprise. If You think the “sandaled Buccaneer” management and business model is as Capn’ Morgan envisioned it, try finding the connection between the British FCO, DfID and REX! Not Even Bloomberg has! The SIDS Governments do! Yet They hide the Truth From People of African Descent! Where is Ambassador Hurst, Chief Curator and Chief of Staff to the PM! Where is Ambassador Sanders Senior Fellow at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies at the University of London and at Massey College in the University of Toronto! Time and Space suggests that those two ambassadors will with cerebral reality provide knowledge on the authentic interrogation of this colonial hospitality and tourism adventure in the Caribbean Seas, seizing booty, establishing control of the hegemonic global industry, marginalization, and the underdevelopment of African Caribbean people!
To Those who refuse to see things in the Geopolitical and Globalization context, LEST WE REMEMBER: in October 2018 Sunwing Travel Group’s hotel division began operating six of Rex Resorts’ Caribbean hotels as part of a newly formed strategic alliance that will see Sunwing grow its presence in destinations in the English Speaking Eastern Caribbean and will make significant improvements to each of the resorts over the coming years! Nothing New Here! Nothing To See! Move Along Boys and Girls!
“Come, then, comrades; it would be as well to decide at once to change our ways. We must shake off the heavy darkness in which we were plunged, and leave it behind. The new day which is already at hand must find us firm, prudent and resolute. … Let us waste no time in sterile litanies and nauseating mimicry.” – Fanon!
A&B: Starfish Halcyon & Hawksbill; BGI:Starfish Discovery Bay; GND: Starfish Grenada; SLU: Royal Resort, St. Lucian, Starfish St. Lucian, TnT: Starfish Tobago! What happened to the Tourism and Hospitality Industry! Are the People of African Descent resident on those Small Island Development States (SIDS) “centered and central in their own history or do they see themselves as agents, actors, and participants rather than as marginals on the periphery of this colonial privateer political or buccaneer economic experience” – Asante!
Constitutional Justice, Reparatory and Restorative Justice, Natural Justice! What has been the Truth in the English Speaking Caribbean SIDS since the collapse of the WI Federation! Who planned the Tourism and Hospitality Development! Who were the functional plans designed around! Who Funded and Built those Facilities! Who owns The LAND! Who owns the Tourism and Hospitality Plants and Infrastructure! Who has the Management Leases! How Long Are These Management Leases! When do they EXPIRE! Why did the British FCO and DfID hold these SIDS in Fee Simple! “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.” Dickens! And The Music plays on as the Caribbean Politicos spout Accountability and Transparency! Yet The People of African Descent know not who owns what in their own little bit of paradise!

  1. The World Boss isn’t joking. He is on the move. What an amazing thing to have Halcyon brought into the 21st century. I’d stay there for sure.

  2. Just wondering if all the reputable local contractors got an opportunity to provide a bid for this job. Bad enough Sunwing, a foreign contractor, who imported foreign workers from the Dominican Republic, and who would never go back home to the Dominican Republic after the Royalton job, they were contracted to do the work at Royaltion, now it’s like they are here to stay and might suddenly become the contractor of choice for most big government contracts. IF HONEY IS IN THIS ROCK ANTIGUANS WANT THEIR SHARE JACK.

  3. I did my internship at this resort in 1990 from the Hotel Training Centre (HTC) and then went on staff for a six (6) months contract. It is a beautiful resort then but I can’t say for now since I haven’t been there for years. The structures are very strong and a new face-lift will bring it back to it glory days. It has one of the most beautiful beach on the island.

  4. Better yet I am sure my friend Mr Pompey would prefer my doing any pun that may be associated with his name!

  5. Fixed implies the renovations are complete. I wake up every day, at 530am, to construction noise and go to bed, at 11pm, to construction noise. They have another 3-6 months before completion. My front row view is that of a 3 star hotel, certainly not a 5 star as advertised… when will people actually confront this socially, environmentally and morally irresponsible company. They should be run out of Antigua not embraced…. and, by the way, the Antiguans have relinquished Deep Bay (and all its beauty) to the hotel. It is now a disgusting and nosiy mess.
