The Belmont/Briggins Community To Establish An Active Community Watch Group
Residents of the Belmont and Briggins Community gathered together and requested the presence of the Parliamentary Representative Sir the Hon. Steadroy Cutie Benjamin, to detail plans to establish a community watch group.
Safety was the main topic of the discussions, with reference to the recent tragedies that have affected the island. Additionally, it was indicated that the community has been a target for bandits, who consistency break into homes and businesses. Residents are of the view that the police cannot do it alone and action must be taken to safeguard the community.
The meeting was spearheaded by Audie Browne and Steveroy Anthony along with others who have a strong security background. Members are of the view that first order of action should be the installation of security cameras.
The cameras will be placed at certain strategic areas within the community and monitored effectively. The data can be referred to by the Royal Police Force in any criminal investigation.
Minister Benjamin commended community members for coming forward and taking the charge. Benjamin mentioned, “this shows unity and commitment to self and community and country by large because crime fighting also call for the people to play an active role and lead the way, when needs be.
The St. John’s City South caretaker assured constituents that any support needed, will be given without delay.
