Sister of the Late Asot Michael Says in His Eulogy That the Late MP Predicted His Own Early Death
The sister of the late Hon. Asot Anthony Emmanuel Michael, Teresa-Anne Michael, revealed during his eulogy that the former MP had often predicted he would not live to old age. Drawing a poignant parallel, she reflected on how her brother’s untimely passing at 54 mirrored their father’s death at 53, adding a deeply personal layer to the ceremony.
“My brother often spoke of our father’s early passing, and now, just a year older, he has followed a similar path,” Teresa-Anne shared. “He seemed to carry the weight of that knowledge and lived every day as though it were his last.”
Teresa-Anne described her brother as someone who approached life with an intensity shaped by this premonition.
“He gave everything he had—to his family, to his friends, and to the people of Antigua and Barbuda,” she said. “He lived with urgency, knowing his time might be short, and he made every moment count.”
She reflected on his relentless commitment to public service, particularly his hands-on approach in the St. Peter constituency. “He wasn’t just a politician; he was a servant of the people, always there to lend a hand, provide support, or simply offer comfort,” Teresa-Anne said.
Teresa-Anne drew comparisons between her brother and their father, both of whom she described as deeply generous men.
“They shared a belief in the importance of uplifting others, whether through acts of kindness, personal sacrifices, or unwavering dedication to their community,” she said.
Asot’s work in St. Peter exemplified this ethos. From education and health care assistance to festive giveaways, his contributions left a lasting mark on those he served.
Teresa-Anne also spoke of her brother’s vibrant personality, recalling his ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
“He celebrated life with the same passion he brought to his work. He loved deeply, laughed heartily, and lived boldly,” she said. “Asot had a way of making everyone around him feel special and valued.”
Her tribute painted a picture of a man whose energy and charisma left an indelible impression on everyone he encountered.
Reflecting on her brother’s prediction of an early death, Teresa-Anne said it shaped the way he lived.
“He often told me he wouldn’t grow old, and now I see how much he truly believed it. He lived fearlessly, generously, and with a sense of purpose that will forever inspire us,” she said.
Asot Michael was laid to rest at the St. John’s Public Cemetery, leaving behind a legacy of service and love. Teresa-Anne’s heartfelt words encapsulated the life of a man who gave his all to his family, friends, and country.
“Like our father, Asot has left us too soon, but his impact will endure,” she said. “His life reminds us all to live boldly, love deeply, and serve selflessly.”
The funeral marked a solemn farewell to a man whose influence will be felt for generations, as mourners celebrated his contributions and the spirit with which he lived his life.
