Temporary Freedom Granted to Man Charged in Transgender Partner’s Death

6

A man convicted of killing his transgender partner in 2018 has been temporarily released from prison after a legal challenge.

Timothy Jackman, 27, was freed from Her Majesty’s Prison on July 3, earlier than his original 11 years and nine months sentence for the manslaughter of 25-year-old Angel Joseph.

Jackman’s release was initially deemed a mistake by the prison, which sought his rearrest, claiming he was freed two years early.

His lawyer, Wendel Alexander, argues that Jackman’s early release was due to a mathematical error by the sentencing judge, who miscalculated the sentence duration.

Alexander maintains that Jackman was released on the date specified, based on good behavior and the sentence calculation.

The court has issued a temporary injunction preventing Jackman’s rearrest until a hearing on August 15, during which Alexander will seek a pardon if Jackman is found to have served his correct term.
