The Antigua and Barbuda Broadcasting Service (ABS) held a telethon to help raise funds for long-serving news anchor Cherilyn Beazer, who is undergoing treatment overseas for a serious medical condition.
With a target of $30,000, staff and local artistes came together on Saturday evening to support the effort, which began at 8 p.m. By 9:30 p.m., pledges had already reached $31,900 and were expected to surpass the goal.
Beazer revealed in a video that six months ago she developed a lesion in her right jaw, which doctors feared could be cancerous. Following medical advice, she travelled to Colombia for a biopsy and further treatment.
ABS General Manager Erna-Mae Brathwaite said the telethon gave the public a chance to give back to Beazer, who has long served the community with dedication. She noted that every contribution, regardless of size, would go towards medical expenses, rehabilitation, or general support.

Beazer, who has spent many years in broadcasting, expressed gratitude to medical practitioners, colleagues, family, and friends for their care and support.
Organisers confirmed that donations can still be made to her medical fund despite the telethon’s conclusion.

Gratifying to know that there still exists an indigenous community in Antigua and Barbuda with a heart of gold. Thank you, Antigua and Barbuda on behalf of Cherilyn Beazer. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Antiguans and Barbudans are good people… JAH blessings
Pray that all goes well with her medical treatment. Pity she is not Jackie Quinn who got firest class funding from TAXPAYERS MONIES (MBS) to cover her treatment at an elite hospital in the USA. Sadly, the average ciitizen has to resort to their own fundraising if they are not Jackie Quinn.
Is this really necessary…Chuptz
We love this for her. I wish her a speedy recoevery. Our prayers and thoughts are with you Hun
The target was $30,000 and the people gave more. That’s what love and support look like.
Cherilyn has been a household name for years. It’s heartwarming to see the community giving back to her in her time of need.
Sickness is for anyone…
It is sad that Cherilyn has fallen sick in such a manner especially in the prime of her life. She was well admired. I am sure all Antiguans & those in the diaspora wish her a speedy recovery.
It was also great to see that the media where she last worked assisted her in raising funds for her medical expenses. Other organizations should take a page from ABS book and do likewise for their employees.
