JAMAICA GLEANER: A complainant who admitted in court that she lied that a man had sexually assaulted her three years ago has been taken into custody on suspicion of creating public mischief.
The matter came up before Justice Dale Palmer in the St Catherine Circuit Court on Thursday.
When the 16-year-old complainant took the witness stand, she declared that she had no interest in the matter.
She then said she reported the matter because she loved the man and he did not return the sentiment.
Justice Palmer then freed the accused and enquired of the Crown Counsel whether there was an interest in pursuing a case against the complainant.
The teenager was then taken into custody.
The complainant had alleged that she was sexually assaulted by the accused in 2022.
A probe by the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) resulted in 10 charges, including having sexual intercourse with a person under 16, sexual grooming and production of child pornography, were brought against the accused.
The accused made numerous court appearances and maintained his innocence throughout.
He was represented by attorneys-at-law Shelldon Campbell and Earl Hamilton.

Am I reading correctly? The teen confessed that she lied about the accusation. So that means that it never happened. How then was the false accused man charged with sexual intercourse with a minor and child pornography production if there was no evidence to prove it. Were the charges solely based on the lie of the teen? This is scary!!
@N charges are what you receive before your court case, and what you’re being held/ arrested with, so the person was charged for those crimes but wasn’t convicted/ proven guilty since it’s false claims and was dropped
