ABS-Eighteen-year-old Jayson Jarvis of Point has been fined $8,000 after taking his father’s unlicensed vehicle and driving with a female passenger before a crash near Valley Church.

Police say he was speeding on Valley Road, lost control, hit an oncoming SUV, and then crashed into a tree.

The passenger suffered minor injuries.

Jarvis admitted he had no driver’s licence and took the vehicle without his father’s knowledge.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving without a driver’s licence, driving an unlicensed vehicle, and driving without insurance.

Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel gave the teenager a year to pay the fines or serve prison time.

  1. Some parents know what their unruly children are doing. The law needs to be more harsh with the younger generation today. They are lawless and the law protects them to a great extent.

  2. Speeding, no licence, no insurance, took the car without permission, that’s a whole list of bad decisions.
