Teen Cricketer Identified as Victim in Grays Farm Fatal Stabbing

The teenager found dead in a gutter on Friday night in Grays Farm, Antigua and Barbuda, has been identified as Vonde Bowers, a rising cricketer and student at Ottos Comprehensive School.

Bowers, a fourth form student, had recently represented Antigua and Barbuda on the Under-19 cricket team during a tour of England and the Jersey Islands. He was also a member of the Mahico Cricket Club.

The young athlete had only returned to the country last week following the overseas tour.

According to residents, Bowers was fatally stabbed during a violent altercation involving several young men in the Grays Farm area. His body was discovered with multiple stab wounds to the chest, head, and other areas.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

  2. When will the ministers step in? When it’s too late? In recent days we’ve just been losing our youths one by one. Lord protect them and guide them

    Very sad indeed!

  7. Licksplittlers and Hangers on such as Faithful National #1 is why this country is the way it is, once they are comfortable wallowing in the corrupt traugh Antigua and Barbuda can go to hell. Crime was never like this ever, they will tip toe around things instead of highlighting the incompetence of the bunch of idiots who run this government

  8. We need serious government intervention in today’s society. Like, can we see more youth engagements and all of that? Not just read about them on social and dem things

  9. See some sort of altercation. Tho these altercations don’t have to end up with yall ready to kill each other, it times yall stop the shittery. Cause this makes no sense. Who’s talking to our youths?

  10. Rumor has is that there’s a 16 year old in custody. This reminds me of when they killed Marie in Bendals. Sad that another teen dies and the other goes to jail.

  12. If we will humble ourselves, those of us who name the name of Christ, look to God and pray and seek God’s face, turning from our wickedness, God will hear us, forgive us and heal our land. This is the word of God.

It is called SIN people , and it has taken our land and this world. Let us hold our youths and young ones and pray for and with them, the enemy is taking them away. My heart hurts, I don’t know this young man, but I feel this so much.

  13. Its always very sad to read about these events. It’s never something we want to hear about in our small island of Antigua and Barbuda. We have no idea what caused the altercation. What about walking away from trouble? Is that not a thing anymore? Our yoing people are on the wrong path. I pray dor grace ans mercy and peace. When we look in the face od our friends we should ourselves. We should love and not hate. My heart is crushed this morning as I have young boys.

  14. All is well in Antigua, Gaston Brown is good. ABLP is the best. Anybody who says otherwise is an “enemy of the state” according to Young Destroyer and many on this site. For me, I done talk. For YEARS we saw this coming and cried out constantly only to be cussed out by ABLP and their operatives. Now, look at where we are?
To alleviate and reverse this, will take men and women who really care and that’s all I will say for now
    Condolences to the family.

  15. Our children are no longer safe. We need real solutions, not just condolences. How many more yougg by men must dies before something changes?

  16. This is absolutely devastating. A young life full of promise taken so senselessly. My prayers go out to Vonde’s family and friends.

  17. It is with deep sadness that I write to acknowledge the heartbreaking loss of young Vonde Bowers, whose life was tragically cut short in an act of senseless violence.

I extend my sincere condolences to his family, his schoolmates at Ottos Comprehensive School, and the entire cricketing community who mourn the passing of a bright and talented young man.

However, I was particularly disturbed to learn through Antiguanewsroom after 11 last night about the findings. The report detailing how his body was discovered in a gutter in Grays Farm with multiple stab wounds has sent shockwaves throughout our nation, especially among the youth whom Vonde inspired both in the classroom and on the cricket field.

Vonde was not just a student; he was a national representative in cricket, a promising athlete who proudly wore the colours of Antigua and Barbuda. His passion and discipline embodied the best of our sporting ideals. We, as a country, cannot afford to overlook the urgent need to protect and nurture our youth, whether in their homes, schools, or communities.

On the other hand, Antiguanewsroom has done well to bring national attention to this tragedy, and I hope the coverage continues to be a catalyst for real community dialogue and action. I also encourage anyone with information about this case to come forward and assist law enforcement as they work to bring those responsible to justice.

Let this not be just another headline. Let Vonde Bowers’ memory remind us all of what is at stake when we lose our young men to violence. As we grieve, we must also reflect and recommit to creating safe, supportive environments where our youth can grow, thrive, and live full lives.

Thank you, Antiguanewsroom, for your continued dedication to informing the public and highlighting stories that matter. I will remain a follower forever

I send a special condolences to the family and friends.

  18. When you say things that doesn’t fit the narrative of a certain section of the society the see it as pure politics. I personally believe this Administration is CURSED and nothing will change until they are gone. This has got to be taken very serious, because darker days are coming BELIEVE THAT

  19. We’re losing our youth to violence, and it feels like no one in leadership is listening. Where are the mentors? The safe spaces? The intervention programs?

  20. No body cares no more all of self loving kindness and tender mercies gone gone gone family hold on in prayer and God will comfort you

  21. Sarcastic I see. But there’s nothing the ABLP has done to you but make Antigua a better place. Okay, the ABLP may not be able to curve youth violence. That starts from parents and their troubled demon possessed kids. But on the brighter side of things. What has any other government done for us environmentally? Oh okay. Before you bash the ABLP for these ignorant, no brain, broken home youths. Do a fact check.

Condolences to the family and friends of Vonde Bowers.

  24. ANR keep up the excellent work. You lead and the others follow, i personally love you and read you daily. Conolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Very sad that a young life has to go down this way. This world is changing on us.

and ANR continue the excellent job

  25. Do you all really think a change of government will change people ways or their way of thinking? I think not. ABLP or UPP people will continue to do what they want to do.
There are no lack of jobs in Antigua so what’s the excuse

  26. When them Lil dirty dogs get catch ..only jah know how his mother must be holding her belly an a bawl.no heart no love in this universes..jealousy at its best trust me ..may his soul meet the right destination

  27. We’re losing our youth to violence, and it feels like no one in leadership is listening. Where are the mentors? The safe spaces? The intervention programs?

  28. On speaking of youth violence, not related to this case, but based on the comments, young people were given a “pass” to smoke marijuana as they like. You cannot drive without smelling it, cannot walk 10 feet without smelling it and then we wonder why the surge in violence all of a sudden. No one can see the correlation? There are other causes which includes spiritual but I am waiting to see if no one will connect the dots and do something about it. Sad.

  29. Y is it always the government fault! Did the ruling party told them to go and kill. We as parents need to stop laying blame and pointing fingers cause we know what our children are into. We see the signs of what they are doing, we have the evidence of what they have done. Some of us are hostages in our own homes and what do we do???? Nothingggggggg.
Stop it! You are the parent. Seek help for that child and at the same time parent, seek help for yourselves.
TAP THE BLAME GAME! CAUSE IF THE GOVERNMENT INTERVENE SOME A ARE YOU SAME PARENT RUN PAN ALLLLL THE SOCIAL MEDIA ACD CRY FOUL. SOME OF ALL YOU EVEN START BAWL! ME PICKNEE NAR GO A NO KINDA CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION.
COME ON PARENTS…BRING BACK OUR YOUTHS. IT STARTS WITH US.

  30. Some of you people are ridiculous, these things were happening when upp was in power also, I stood and watch Bernard get stabbed to death while going to Jennings secondary and that was 2007/2008. The thing is, technology has taken over and news is shared much quicker than decades ago. The government has nothing to do with these things whether ablp or upp, the world is just filled with troubled humans, both young and old. Was it Gaston who told them to gang and kill this young man? Was it Baldwin who told Santana to stab and kill Bernard?

Be for real and stop politicizing everything.

  31. It is hard to solve problems when we are so angry that we can’t think straight. That is why helping kids and young adults starts with helping them to calm down. Arguments, fights & disagreements are a part of life – for adults & for kids. Conflicts may not be pleasant but they don’t have to end in catastrophe. One of the greatest need in our country is learning to be tolerant of each other without the bitterness and hostility that always seem to be present. From our leaders down, we all seem to promote it. We badly need to take stock.

  32. @ Devron Carter
People like you is why we are where we are, you are just like the ostrich, your head I buried in the sand. Since this Administration is in office the most they have done is pay lip service to crime and violence. Gaston should have already the baboon Cutie from that ministry and appoint someone else to at least see if it would make a difference, but with all the chat Gaston has he fraid because them ah plan fo he, he only hab Trang fu UPP

  33. Why blame the Gov’t & for the young people’s ignorance & stupidity?
The gov’t & parents can only do so much & no more ….

A horse can be taken to a pond and be forced to drink, but it will not drink the water if chooses not to. The same applies to a child.

Who can’t hear will feel. It is sad that we are now living in a BAD BOY era just to prove a point.

My sympathy goes out to parents of the cricketer. The youngster had great potential

  34. We need unity love equal rights and justice and it’s going to take the whole island to defeat this energy, yes we can sit and cast blame but it won’t do a thing but set us back, coming together is the only way,my condolences to the family.

  35. The government isn’t to blame and yes many have parents who are part of the problem but there is a bigger issue than cannot easily be controlled… They all have cell phones they all have the internet….Man will create wonders and they shall worship it in the last days… The wonder is the internet and smart phones constantly consuming our time and focus… It can be used for good but it’s also a tool that unleashes corruption to vulnerable minds…Technology is the leader of this new generation they can be watching content showing positivity but mainly their feeds are always loaded with negativity…. Vulnerable Minds……

  36. RIP … there are just no words
This hit hard. Sports being a way to self-express and now this youngster is gone. I await the details behind this gruesome act.

  37. Government minister will meet with the gang members and let them walk free to kill again, the gangs mocking the PM thinking they are untouchable, why they are not in jail from previous killing tell us why.

  38. @ Apex Jonels
If everyone saw things the way you do we would stay mired in depravity forever. If you hired a Man to do a job and he’s not efficient you keep changing until you get the that most suited

  39. My deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends as they mourn his passing. It saddens me that this is the only time he is being highlighted, when in life he was a positive young man with great potential, doing amazing things. Why is it that only in moments of tragedy our youths get attention?

I am deeply disappointed that the government and media so often focus on negativity or death, yet fail to celebrate the many young people in this country who are excelling academically, athletically, and positively representing our nation. When their accomplishments are reported, it’s often buried in the back pages instead of being given the recognition it deserves.

It is time we start celebrating our youths while they are alive, supporting their dreams and amplifying their success stories.

  40. No one is blaming the government for another person’s evil, but it’s the government that’s responsible for sending a strong message to criminals, and the one they have been sending to criminals for the pass 12 years is as soft as it gets in the entire Caribbean.

And the “sorry president” they send the other day by giving the 16 year old only 3 years for robbery and murder, send another sorry message that has certainly reach the ears of this 16 year old who just killed this 17 yr old.

So keep talking about government is not responsible for the safety of a Country.

Antigua will soon become an anarchist state, watch and see. If this is not dealt with severely, the mayhem will continue, because the youth know they are only going to get a slap on the wrist, which they have being getting.

So keep talking, you fools who don’t hold government responsible.
