The Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers (A&BUT) has suspended its planned industrial action at the Post Millennial Academy, which had been set to begin on Wednesday, 17 September.
The decision follows outreach from the school’s administration, which invited union executives to a meeting to discuss outstanding concerns.
Last week, A&BUT President Casroy Charles wrote to parents on 10 September warning that staff would take action until the administration engaged in negotiations. At the time, he said the step was necessary due to what the union described as the school’s “continued failure” to resolve disputes through dialogue.
Speaking on Tuesday, Charles confirmed the union would now hold off.
“We decided to meet tomorrow to discuss the pending matters, so we have decided to put the industrial action on hold. They reached out to us…” he told Antigua.news.
The meeting between administrators and union representatives is expected to set the tone for negotiations. Both sides have expressed cautious optimism that the dispute can be settled without disrupting students’ education.

Who is the principal of that school?
Let good sense and understanding prevail.
Always about industrial action. I am convinced charles hates the government
It is always better to negotiate that fight or tell teachers to stay home. I recall when this man shut down the whole school system because of 7 unpaid teachers. You think mr easy?
The Teachers need to hire someone to head their union who is not on the executive of UPP, the opposition to the party now governing the country. The opposition’s ONLY task is to oppose oppose oppose. They do not have the Teacher’s BEST interest at heart.
This needs to change.
Well said. He playing POLITICS!!!!! UPP style.
If the government ever cared about education at all, they would’ve met their obligations to the teachers. Over $6mil dollars was easily forked out to purchase the Deluxe Cinema for the sole purpose of helping out a Comrade so where was your outrage? The teachers never broke agreement so you should deal with the dishonest people who did.
N I concur. Being an educator I can only imagine what the naysayers would be coming with cuz they r not in d position. When we have to use the little that we earn n assist with everything to make the classroom student friendly n appealing for the eyes, non ah r u a chat. N still have to purchase something for certain students to use in the classroom. Pay up d damn money. It’s been long overdue n we work still. But enough is enough. Money going here there n to all othe avenue but teachers must not get any. A r too unfair in this country. Everything can’t always b red n blue. So because he fighting for the teachers both red n blue, ah UPP he be. Ah arl ah r we sit in. Not just those who support UPP.
This is an F’ UP world we live in …. In Antigua and Barbuda
A union leader does the responsible thing: notify parents since the union has not been cooperative.
You idiots think his actions are because he is against the current political party in charge.
Teachers hasn’t anyright to make a living wage or to get their money. Sounds like that’s your thinking.
Are you folks so dumb or are you just stupidly politically naive?
Teachers had every right to take a stand. Glad the administration finally reached out, it shouldn’t have come to this.
Respect to the union for holding off once dialogue opened. That shows they’re serious about resolution, not just protest.
So teachers should just work for thank yous and IOU’s… Oook. Best you start giving free services to the public
