Teaching staff at Post Millennial Academy are set to begin industrial action on Wednesday, 17 September, after the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers (A&BUT) said repeated calls for dialogue with the school’s administration had gone unanswered.

In a letter to parents dated 10 September, A&BUT President Casroy Charles said the move was necessary due to “the school’s administrator’s continued failure to engage in discussions that are geared towards resolving a dispute lodged, which claims that several of the school’s most recently introduced operation procedures contravene our nation’s labour laws, as well as the teachers’ employment contract.”

Charles confirmed that both the school’s board chairman and the principal had been formally notified of the union’s position and the measures required to avert the action. “To date, the administrators of Post Millennial Academy have not responded to our missive,” he added.

Parents were urged to prepare for possible disruptions, with Charles emphasising that the union’s decision was not taken lightly but reflected its commitment to protecting teachers’ rights and ensuring adherence to established labour standards.
