ANITGUA OBSERVER: Government teachers in Antigua and Barbuda staged a sit-in today, April 1, 2025, protesting the delayed appointment letters for those eligible for upgrades between 2017 and 2022.

While letters began going out last week, the process remains incomplete. The Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers vows to continue the protest until all qualified educators receive their official appointments.

Discussions with the Ministry of Education are ongoing.

  1. Why can’t no one in the power house get it right?
We are talking as far back as 2017.
I am wondering if that is being done to punish the wife of Honorable Richard Lewis.
We have the worst education minister in the history of Antigua and barbuda. Sadly the UPP has guaranteed him another term.
I am sure given the opportunity Gaston would appoint Maria a Kings Counsel although she doesn’t know what inside a court room looks like. Why then is it so difficult for him to address other public servants concerns?
Will he allocate land to the teachers like he did for his wife’s father in Barbuda? No.
Well Gaston treat those deserve it right!!!!!

  2. It’s funny how they tell people go ah UWI and get big education but soon with all of those grads with big degrees there will be no work and no way to advance them in their field of employment. How any government of A&B going to pay these people what they may be worth per education and experience lol. This is just the beginning and soon many nurses and teachers will jump ship and go abroad for better pay.

  3. These unions aren’t giving the government a break at all. Every opportunity for strike they will take. I hope this government will understand the politics that is being played here.
