A group of teachers at Pares Secondary School has raised urgent concerns about safety on the school compound following a stabbing incident earlier this week, according to a letter sent to the Ministry of Education.
The letter, dated March 10 and addressed to Education Minister Daryll Matthew, Permanent Secretary Ena Dalso-Henry and Director of Education Clare Brown, states that the incident has intensified anxiety among staff and highlighted the need for stronger security measures at the school.
Teachers say the stabbing, which reportedly occurred on March 9, underscores longstanding safety concerns they claim have been raised with the school administration since September 2025.
According to the letter, staff members have repeatedly requested the introduction of regular security checks and other protective measures on the school compound but say those concerns have not been adequately addressed.
The document outlines several issues teachers say have contributed to growing fears for their personal safety while carrying out their duties.
Among the concerns cited are reports of students bringing weapons onto the school compound in their bags, as well as incidents involving students smoking on school grounds.

Teachers also referenced reports of inappropriate student behavior occurring on the school compound during school hours, which they say further reflects the need for stronger monitoring and security controls.
The teachers say the stabbing incident has heightened concerns among staff and demonstrates what they describe as the urgent need for intervention to improve security at the institution.
In the letter, the teachers called on the Ministry of Education to take immediate action to strengthen safety protocols at the school, including implementing routine bag checks and other security measures aimed at protecting both staff and students.
They also requested a broader review of the school’s safety policies and disciplinary procedures to ensure that the compound remains a secure learning environment.
The document was signed “Distressed Teachers (Pares Secondary School),” and notes that the teachers’ union has become involved because of the seriousness of the concerns raised.
The Ministry of Education had not publicly responded to the concerns outlined in the letter up to the time of publication.
