When she returned, she discovered the purse missing. It reportedly contained $7,000 in cash, several Treasury cheques, government identification cards, and other personal items.
A 12-year-old student who was in the room at the time told police that a man wearing a blue surgical mask entered and approached the teacher’s bag before leaving.

Positive or not it’s news that has to be reported. So early in the morning you’re thinking nonsense?
So bright and early in the morning the first news you report is something negative? Any positive thing happened at all? Qe would like to start off our day on a positive note like we have been used to Antiguanewsroom.
That was poor judgment on behalf of the teacher. We live in an age where people are looking for stuff to take. If I had 7000.00 in my bag I would have it under my arm everywhere I go. Sorry for your loss.
Teacher the maths not mathsing!!!!
Didn’t a similar crime happen a few weeks ago when a teacher went on a trip with the children and left her bag in the school, I think it was on a chair that was pushed under a desk.
Unfortunately, I think those trusting days are over.
Maybe, staff should make point of taking their handbag with them at all times.
Alternatively, they could be allocated lockers for personal possessions.
Ignorance
The chances of getting that money back is slim. Hope it didnt belong to someone
Well base on d report is either another teacher or grounds man take it cuz d report say a child wit a surgical mask is they alone would jus walk in to a class so
They need to put lockers with locks for the teachers to store their personal items. Can’t be leaving bags in or on desks anymore.
Sensational and ridiculous story! Who in their right mind would leave a bag with $7000 plus other important documents lying around? I have $60 and its guarded as if my life depends on it. We cannot be careless with the way we do things and then make unfounded and baseless claims about theft. In this atmosphere of theft and piracy, you cannot be careless with anything these days. This is laughable!
I noticed a heavy trend in Antigua, is that we have a culture of victim blaming.
Only one person that broke the law here, and it’s the person that stole the woman’s purse.
Find that person and jail them..we have a witness that saw something suspicious..this should be a easy case to solve.
I can’t speak to the circumstances and there is never any excuse for stealing BUT why on earth would you have that much cash in your bag and leave it unattended??
How stupid, my bad! All schools should be equipped with locker rooms for the teachers property storage, what if the teacher carelessly leave his or her bag around inquisitive youths containing sexual paraphernalia or vibrator dildos or drugs?
There should be procedure or protocol put in place to protect these youths who are inquisitive by nature, now the entire class has been incriminated because of the teachers negligence.
I find that’s carelessness on the teachers side how could you have such a sum of money on you and leaving it unattended in a public place like a a school office or where ever like really common that is irresponsibility on the teachers side hope some security camera is in place to help but sad
Don’t the school have lockers where students and teachers can secure their belongings? We are operating in the twenty first century, not the eighties. I am saddened to hear of the teacher lost. I hope the authorities can catch the culprit.
Who the hell would have that amount of money in their bag and leave it unattended while in another area. Give me a break. Anyway if is true hope she finds it
Will the Ministry of Education continue to keep silent on this issue?
Obviously your plans ( though they might have been good) aren’t working , teachers are loosing their hard earned money.
It’s time to speak up and involve the public they might be better equipped to help you catch the perpetrator.
Vera, why do people like you love to shoot the messengers, but yet give a free pass to the growing criminal element in Antigua?
I’m sure that if you were a victim of any crime you would want it reported and dealt with surely?
Is it any wonder that CRIMES are not being talked or addressed in this country.
The criminal underworld must be laughing their heads off …

Teacher is obviously not that smart..many are called few are chosen!!!
There are supposed to be surveillance cameras on the school compound and security at all times, if there is none, why not? You keep hearing about this for so long. This is not surprising at all.
The Teacher had an urgent call in the yard, that can happen to anyone. Too many dishonest people around doing these things, I am so sorry for the Teachers loss. I can imagine how she is feeling at that work place now.
Don’t worry my God in heaven will make a way somehow, In the meantime hold strong and keep the faith, nothing happens just like that. It’s a possibility someone needed more than you. As promised, God will intervene and bless you, trust me. God bless
First a Bishop now a Teacher, must be alls fool day in October.
At a school? What does that say for the safety of our children’s properties? These are type of people we are trusting to take care of our kids during the day? Where’s the ministries statement on this! Anyway, Antigua Surf over and out
That’s alot of money to have in your bag. Not saying it’s ok to steal it but that’s plenty plenty
That poor teacher must be traumatized. Imagine going to work to help children and getting robbed instead. Praying for her peace.
Kill dem all and done!
