Sylvanie Burton to Make History as Dominica’s First Female and Indigenous President

0

Dominica is on the brink of history as Sylvanie Burton, nominated by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, is poised to become the nation’s inaugural female and indigenous President.

Skerrit, having consulted Opposition Leader Jesma Paul, has put forth Burton’s name for parliamentary approval.

The constitution mandates joint agreement between the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader for nominee selection.

With government majority backing Burton, her confirmation by the National Assembly is anticipated.

Currently the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environmental, Rural Modernisation, and Kalinago Upliftment, Burton is set to succeed Charles Savarin on October 1, marking a significant milestone for the nation.
