Surge in Citizenship Applications: Over 2,000 Processed by July 2024

The Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU) has processed over 2,000 applications by the end of July 2024, a significant surge compared to the past three years.

CEO Charmaine Quinland-Donovan reported that around 1,000 applications were processed in July alone, with the rest between January and June.

The spike in July is attributed to an impending fee increase from US$100,000 to $230,000, prompting applicants to act before the August 1 hike.

Since then, applications have sharply declined. Prime Minister Gaston Browne also presented the CIU’s bi-annual report for January to June 2024 in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

  1. Oh God jack and people can’t get their backpay since 2018. And this %$#@ Government say they care about people. Some backpay as low as $1800 that people done work for Jesus christ man.

  2. ABLP has never shown any care for the ordinary people in this country. Now Gaston is taunting them, ” money dey but aryou nar get none”

  3. can’t get social security money since how long!
Nothing is done with professionally, with due care or a sense of urgency!! they don’t care about us just themselves!!

  4. There is a tricky pot hole opposite Chase supermarket. Can some of this money be used to fix that hole. It will cost maybe $150. The road leading up to the stadium that eventually gets you to Parham is a TOTAL MESS just above the tamarind tree. Now this road is a major secondary road and it is just shame to see that was done after APUA did what they are famous for doing. It is a crying shame how things are left to just fester. Sometimes I wonder if those in authority simply do it for spite!!!!

  5. Whilst I understand the needs of small developing countries and their quest of getting financial resources and help for their country’s development, the whole citizen by investment scheme to me is a shameless, brash and improper means of so doing. Being a citizen of a country is a right and a privilege and no one should be able to buy that. I know that this is also the position of the Right Honourable Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Dr Ralph Gonsalves who have often said that no amount of money can but citizenship in his country.
Since it’s inception, countries such as Antigua, St. Kitts and Nevis, Dominica and Grenada has made millions of dollars selling their country’s passports but it has also placed those countries citizens in a precarious position where they are often looked at and suspected of being less than credible. As a means of rebuffing this passport for citizenship scheme, many friendly international countries has imposed visa restrictions and more on our citizens entering their country. The UK is the latest of such countries requiring visitors to register and get approval before visiting their country.
I can already imagine that all kinds of nefarious and outrageous characters are already boasting Antigua and Barbuda passports and citizenship and it’s only a matter of time before their fruits are known. I believe that our leaders, past and present are short sighted. Yes lots of money right now but the damage done to our reputation might be longterm and irreparable.

    • “nefarious and outrageous character” like the Dominican queen contestant you claimed scammed you?

“Audley Phillip told Dominica News Online that the young woman spent over $10,000 on his credit cards, as well as making phone calls to Germany and England costing over $4,800. The incidents occurred between October 3, 2009 and October 16, 2009 while the woman was staying at his residence in Antigua.”

OR WAS IT BECAUSE YOU COULDN’T KEEP UP WITH HER YOUTHFUL ENERGY? pick your battles wisely next time. Young ladies prefer young men! did you let your EGO get to you thinking she would actually want you for real?

  6. @ Audley Phillip, the criminals are based in the European countries. Some of these European countries also sell citizenship, America also has a program with a path to citizenship starting at 1 million USD. The billions of $$$ from the Russians Oligarchs are all in European and American banks, so tell me who are the money launderers.
