The long-delayed Sunshine Hub Car Park project in St. John’s is expected to resume within the next 90 days, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced.
Speaking in Parliament, Browne said the National Assets Management Company (NAMCO) has been working to secure the necessary funding to complete the long-stalled project. He also revealed that engineering assessments are being conducted to determine the extent of repairs needed before construction resumes.
“NAMCO has done some cleanup work, and they are now in the process of raising funds to restart the project,” Browne said. “We anticipate that work could recommence within 90 days, but the car park section of the facility has been significantly compromised, so engineering studies are ongoing to determine how we move forward.”
The multi-level car park, initially constructed under the former United Progressive Party (UPP) administration, has been idle for years. Originally designed to ease parking congestion in the capital, the structure has remained unused due to reported structural deficiencies.
Browne criticized the previous administration for what he described as poor planning and execution, suggesting that the facility was not built to the necessary standards. However, opposition members argue that the government has had ample time to address any deficiencies and complete the project.
While the Prime Minister provided a rough timeline for the restart, no firm completion date was given. The government is still in the process of securing financing, raising questions about whether the project could face further delays.
The Sunshine Hub Car Park is seen as a key infrastructure project for St. John’s, intended to alleviate traffic congestion and improve accessibility for businesses in the capital. However, until construction resumes and financing is secured, the future of the project remains uncertain.

Gaston Browne may have announced to the country that work will commence in 90 days on the long overdue Sunshine Hub Car Park in St John’s, but may I add that since his previous promise in October 2014 which works out to be around 3,770 days (which works out to 10 years and 4 months to date).
DO THE MATHS FOLKS … 😉
Browne makes out that this current 90 day assurance is a recent thing; however, his continued CHIMERA to the Antiguan public at large now with this fanciful conception of a scheme, shows that he’s now got “kicking the can” down the political road once again down to a fine art.
Browne relies on his CULT followers to keep he in power, but the rest of us aren’t fooled by his FAKE overblown commitments.
Is that the same Sinshine Car Park that was supposed to have started prior to the 2018 elections and again before the 2023 elections? Oh my, my, my! When will gullible Antiguans stop allowing themselves to be fooled by Gaston Browne? Have the people forgotten that the grass was cut and work was supposed to resume in 2018 and again in 2023? Who ever spoilt antiguans to keep them foolish has a very high price to pay and lots of fire to face in hell.
Those who say leave it there are da…n idiots. Do you realize how much money is being lost everyday in car park fees???
No wonder we cannot be any better because the majority are just as spiteful as Gaston and are willing to cut off your nose to spite your face.
When this project started wasn’t there funds that was already allocated to complete this project? If yes where is it
Haven’t we heard this already?
What’s the reason it been sitting there when I could be put to good use even providing income to the state? How much it would have cost to finish it within while it it was still fresh Vs now even if you did the bare minimum to have it oppositional? I have so many questions
