News provided byEIN Presswire-Sunrise Airways CEO, Philippe Bayard, issued the following statement today hailing recent comments made by government officials in Montserrat and Antigua & Barbuda calling for a reduction in airport taxes as a means to stimulate regional air travel:
“Recent public statements by the Premier of Montserrat and the Minister of Tourism of Antigua and Barbuda advocating for reduced aviation taxes across the Caribbean should be welcomed with widespread support and enthusiasm by all who prioritize the region’s long-term economic growth and connectivity.
At Sunrise Airways, we have long maintained that lowering aviation taxes is a strategic investment that will yield substantial returns, leading to increased flight frequencies, greater passenger movement, and a strengthened regional economy.
Aviation is a key driver of economic development in the Caribbean, and a reduction in taxes will directly contribute to GDP growth across multiple industries. This is a win-win scenario for travelers, businesses, and governments alike.
We commend The Honorable Reuben Meade, Premier of Montserrat, and The Honorable Charles Fernandez, Minister of Tourism, Investment, and Economic Development for Antigua and Barbuda, for their leadership in championing this critical issue.
Their advocacy aligns with the shared vision of a more connected, prosperous, and unified Caribbean. One Caribbean moving forward.”

What ever happened to LIAT (2020) sometimes known as LIAT20?
So Minister Fernandes with economic development in his portfolio, is asking for the lowering of aviation taxes; while he supports 40% increase in vehicle registration.
You can make this shit up. it’s real how the contradictory things happen or are discussed.
The disconnected opposition politicians fail to make the case and make them fly away
The call for reduced aviation taxes is a rare moment of unity across the Caribbean. The combined effort by Montserrat and Antigua & Barbuda sends a clear message that the region is committed to working together toward shared goals. This kind of collaboration can pave the way for further cooperative efforts in other sectors, strengthening the bonds between the Caribbean islands and enhancing the region’s global standing.
I really appreciate that both Montserrat and Antigua & Barbuda are pushing for lower aviation taxes. The Caribbean needs more of these types of collaborative efforts between governments. It’s about time we recognize how important regional connectivity is for our economies. I’d love to see other Caribbean nations follow this lead.
I’m all for this! Lowering aviation taxes may seem like a small step, but it’s a big deal in the long run. More affordable flights would make travel between islands much easier and cheaper, encouraging tourism and investment in local businesses. It’s good to see regional airlines like Sunrise Airways take a positive stance on this.
This could do wonders for Caribbean tourism. When flights become more affordable, people are more likely to visit, and that means more business for local hotels, restaurants, and tour operators. I can see this having a ripple effect throughout the entire economy. It’s a great idea.
t’s great to see that Sunrise Airways is backing this move.
Instead of cutting taxes, we should look at other ways to reduce the cost of air travel, such as government subsidies or partnerships with airlines. Lowering taxes may not be the only way to make travel more affordable, and it could come at too high a cost in the long run.
Max, you’re such a joke!
I just paid for a plane ticket, over 10% of it is taxes to Antigua and Barbuda!!!
Yes it’s time Antigua lower their taxes, and not only for air fares!
How funny when they recently hijack their prices 3to 4 time the previous price the usual to profit from unfortunate situation of the Haitian people. Madness. Charity starts at home
We had a global crisis, and you know who suffered the most, poor people, but instead of prices going down for consumer’s, prices and taxes skyrocketed. Who benefit from all that, certainly not the hard working people, but politicians and the rich who continues to live high on the hog off the back of the working class. Why is a “round trip” to Montserrat from Antigua cost as much as I pay for a flight from the US to Antigua, why? At least American Airlines gives me a biscuit and a soda.. 😂.
So all these politicians who are running their mouths, action is what’s needed, because they are the ones benefiting from all the taxes being paid, because we all well know that without the high taxes on flights, Gatson Browne ain’t making a dime with that useless/terrible 30/70 deal he partnered with Air Peace.
So I’ll see how this one goes, because for me, it sounds like a bag of talk talk.
@Islanman26
I generally agree with you on much of your comments
To understand the LIAT deal better. Think if it this way:
30% Air Peace
30% Antigua tax payer
40% Air Peace fronting the Politicians
Piece.
Remember the football money scandal? Remember who sign the Air Peace agreement and remember LIAT Hanger was handed over to Air Peace
This is an incredible opportunity.
Just like west Africa and the Sahal Alliance.
Work together for a better future.
Caribbean must Unite!!!
