Following short-lived strike action earlier Tuesday School Bus Drivers and Conductors of the Antigua Barbuda Transport Board (ABTB) will resume their duties at noon today.
The workers were demanding the removal of the replacement of what they called ‘an unbearable management structure’ following the departure of Arif Jonas from the post of Manager in September this year.
The employees’ Union Representative Kem Riley of the Antigua Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) had met with scores of agitated and disgruntled workers this morning at the Motor Pool.
In response, ABTB General Manager Junie Jarvis has appointed Taisha Yorke the organization’s Human Resource Manager as the Supervisor of the School Bus system. She will serve until a permanent replacement can be appointed.
The employees agreed this was substantial enough to satisfy their demands and agreed to be back on the job from noon to transport the nation’s children from schools.

Ah you too happy in ah dis place yah….
good morning to my FOLLOWERS. Who will be the first to respond?
I have always learnt that there is a right & wrong way of doing things… How in life can it be right for school children to be left stranded… ? Did the school children do the drivers anything? Leaving the children stranded are exposing them to danger. If so who would be responsible? In my view, The drivers could use
some other measure to Express their grievances
Only when you in the kitchen you feel the heat.
ONE-SIDED VIEW: …ENABLING ENVIRONMENT: …DISCONTENT/DISSATISFACTION
None shall be so foolish in saying that the students attendance at school is not important.
That is certainly ‘NOT’ the issue for the ‘…School Bus Drivers.’
Thus, one shall not take a ‘…One-Sided View’ of matters that affect: (i) ‘…Workers interests: or (ii) …To be so confused or naive, as to shift unnecessary the focus or blame on workers.
From ‘…Management Principles,’ those that manages ‘SHALL’ always seek to create ‘…an Enabling Working Environment.’
THUS: …They shall always endeavor to resolve issues that are likely to cause disruption, and everything will be alright.
Allow ‘…Discontent or Dissatisfaction’ to fester, and see who suffers.
TALK GOOD.
Very inconsiderate of these people. It’s all about self. The school children just started school again and you want to tell me that these bus drivers could not find another time and place to voice their concerns. Lucky I’m not the PM of this country. As Bruce once told Baldwin he has to rule with an iron fist. I would certainly rule with an iron fist. Cause I do not stand for stupidness or ignorant. There are consequences to one’s action. and if you do not care about the consequences of your action then action will be taken against you. People think they can hold hostage any situation they do not agree with. Whether it is political or not. I have learned over my entire lifetime that it’s not all about me. And I do not necessary will have things going my way. It’s not about my way or the highway. Workers should understand that they have rights, but also responsibilities. And that goes for every citizen on the whole. We all seem to always know our rights, but we fail to know our responsibilities towards our country and our fellow countrymen/women.
I don’t care about their grievance with management. By their action today they have done more damage to the children and the nation on a whole. Some parents now have to struggle to find a solution to bring their child to school. They do not have a car. Children will not be able to attend classes. Another setback in the education system. All for what. Fire them ALL.
