Two secondary school students have been given a rare opportunity to observe diplomacy in action as Antigua and Barbuda prepares to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in 2026.
Kiearra Smith, Deputy Head Girl of All Saints Secondary School, and Emari John, Head Boy of Antigua Grammar School, were selected to participate in a special youth initiative designed to provide insight into the planning and execution of the high-level international summit.
The programme allowed the students to attend meetings and gain exposure to the coordination efforts involved in hosting world leaders, offering what officials described as a behind-the-scenes look at global diplomacy and leadership.
Smith described the experience as “amazing to see diplomacy in action and meet influential leaders,” while John said it left him feeling “more motivated to learn about diplomacy and leadership,” highlighting the initiative’s aim of inspiring the next generation ahead of CHOGM 2026.
