
Jennings Man Pleads Guilty to Possessing Modified Weapon
A 32-year-old man from Jennings has pleaded guilty to possessing a dangerous modified weapon.
Steven Roberts admitted the offence at St John’s Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, following a March 25 police raid that uncovered a modified nail gun and two rounds of 9mm ammunition.
A woman arrested with him was released after pleading not guilty.
Roberts is due to be sentenced on March 31.

If he had a good lawyer he could probably gotten away freely. Under the laws of Antigua and Barbuda there are specifications as to what constitutes a firearm or a gun. It is very difficult to prove that a modified nail gun is a firearm. Also a firearm expert will have to be one of the prosecutors witnesses and based on the laws, it will also be difficult for him to get across. Even a the rounds of ammunition must be identified and proven by the expert and not just by any and any officer assuming it’s a bullet.
