Steady Progress at Booby Alley Housing Project as Government of China’s Grant Transforms Pointe Community

Antigua and Barbuda …….The Government of Antigua and Barbuda is reporting steady progress on the Booby Alley Housing Project in the historic Pointe community, a transformative development made possible through a generous EC $100 million grant from the Government of the People’s Republic of China. The project will deliver 150 modern housing units to residents, replacing substandard structures with safe, climate-resilient homes.

Prime Minister the Hon. Gaston Browne hailed the project as a shining example of international cooperation and tangible development, noting that it is already bringing new hope to residents.

“This project would not have been possible without the unwavering support and generosity of the People’s Republic of China,” Prime Minister Browne said. “Their grant to the people of Antigua and Barbuda is a testament to the deep friendship and mutual respect between our two nations. We are profoundly grateful for this partnership, which is delivering lasting change in the lives of our citizens.”

The Booby Alley Housing Project will replace substandard housing with modern, climate-resilient residential units, complete with essential infrastructure and amenities. Designed with both safety and sustainability in mind, the initiative will preserve the cultural identity of the Pointe while introducing a standard of living that meets the needs of a modern community.

Prime Minister Browne stressed that the development will have far-reaching benefits, beyond the physical transformation of the area.

“The residents of the Pointe community are seeing not only new buildings rise, but also new opportunities for economic and social upliftment,” he said. “This is about more than housing—it’s about revitalizing a community and investing in people’s futures.”

The Prime Minister reiterated his appreciation to the Government and people of China, highlighting that their contribution will be remembered as a cornerstone in Antigua and Barbuda’s urban renewal story.

“We thank the People’s Republic of China for their friendship and solidarity. Their generosity is helping us fulfill a promise to our people—to replace inadequate housing with safe, comfortable, and dignified homes. This is a partnership that changes lives,” Prime Minister Browne added.

With work continuing on schedule, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda remains committed to ensuring the timely completion of the project and to using it as a model for future housing and community development initiatives nationwide.

  1. They’re moving rather swiftly as is done in first world countries. Their competent team is proving to us that efficiency and team work can produce anything drafted on paper. Modern day Antigua, for sure. I drive by regularly just to look at the structure and its progress. Amazing. Thankfully, the people of Pointe can now appreciate the vision of their representative.

  2. When this is ready to roll I hope you install a police output on premises, keeping in mind it’s still the ghetto.

Glaston Browne should move as fast on cleaning up the open air drug markets on the street corners and the rum shops plus the private homes that dope dens and prostitution strip clubs.

  4. Missed opportunity to have local workers work with them and take techniques, and methods they use that are more advanced that ours to spread to the labour force

  5. After this project is completed the PM should consider improving the adjacent squatter on the other side near to the waterfront. This would put the icing on the cake and make this community one of the best on the island.

  6. Where is the FSRC?
    Where is the Integrity Commission?
    Why am I asking?
    Let’s do some maths.
I knkw that was not the strong point of the PM since he belly up a bank.
    $100m to construct 150 apartment/units.
It translates to $666,666.67 per unit.
Oh how the Antiguan landscape would look beautiful with 150 almost three quarter million dollar houses.
How many bedroom will those units eaxh contain?
Well I have additional news for the displaced Pointe residents.
None will ever occupy a $666,666.67 unit.
This is going to be one more lie to the people.
Those units will be guven ti the elite labour party friends.
No cassi cutter will ever move frkm a $10,000.00 shack to a unit of the value for free.

  7. Straight shooter needs to do a selfie and rid us all, once and for all of its cesspool politics. As for some of the other responders, ithere is clearly an ingrained trait that the older generation used to describe simply as “they can’t help”. Like Carvaa, for example, his whole psyche, as his comments reveal, reeks “ghetto” and for that, too, our elders had the wisdom to teach us that one can take a pig from the ‘country’, but you cannot take the ‘country’ out of the pig. As for the other jealous detractors, why don’t you teach your fellowmen to keep their trousers zipped up AND pulled up and stop turning every nook and cranny into a haven for your bestial sexual and drug-enhanced activities. In the meantime, allow the decent among you to strive for and enjoy a quality of life which they deserve for themselves and their families. The wise elders also prevailed upon us, “If you can’t say something kind or uplifting about something or someone, then just shut up!”

  8. @Straight Shooter & Young Antiguan Communist:

It’s a Chinese Trojan Horse wrapped in 🇦🇬🇦🇬🇦🇬the Flag of A&B.

  9. @Faithful National #1 – you just choked on your own 💩 shit and 🤮🤢 from your statement, “if you can’t say something kind……just shut up.”
Thanks for playing the role, of an educated moron, as you catch Gaston spittle in your mouth and wipe his ass at the same time. You should audition for the Circus de LATRINE.

  10. I must say great job done by the Chinese and Mr. PM I love how you’re shaping the country! Truly the man with the bigger plan

  11. I have seen better housing projects constructed in Africa than these the Chinese are building here. The Chinese can do better than that.

  12. Can you allow the project to finish? Or you’re just here to bash Chinese or even the Antiguan Government? I’ve seen many things built by the Chinese and they are still standing for today. Park your noise on a side
