Statistics Division Responds to Fraudulent Impersonation Claims in Census Mapping

0

Reports of individuals posing as home affairs officers alongside the upcoming census to commit unlawful acts on vulnerable residents have surfaced on social media.

The Statistics Division is not associated with these individuals and has distanced its officers from such incidents.

They began a Mapping and Listing Exercise in late January for the 2024 Population and Housing Census.

However, alleged imposters posing as census workers have made it challenging for mapping officers to perform their duties, with some residents hesitant to engage with them.

The Division assures the public that mapping officers do not require entry to properties or interviews at this stage.

This exercise helps locate dwellings, businesses, and buildings efficiently, ensuring accurate maps for the census enumeration later this year.

Mapping Officers wear T-shirts with the Division’s logo and “Census Mapping Exercise” on the back, along with official picture IDs, and seek full cooperation from the public during visits.
