St. Phillip’s North will hold a community health fair on Sunday, 19 October 2025, at the Glanvilles Poly Clinic, organisers have announced.
The event, scheduled from 1pm to 5pm, promises free health screenings for residents, covering areas such as blood pressure, diabetes, HPV testing, women’s health, prostate checks, and HIV testing. A fitness session and other wellness activities are also planned.
Organisers emphasised the event’s focus on fostering community wellness. “Thrive Together: St. Phillip’s North Health & Wellness Fair – building a healthier community hand in hand,” the organisers said in a statement.
The fair is a collaborative effort between the St. Phillip’s North community, the Medical Benefits Scheme, and the AIDS Secretariat. Residents are encouraged to attend and take advantage of the screenings and wellness resources on offer.

When a government resorts to using such activities to build momentum and gain favor with the people it is a sure sign of failure.
The government owns all the health centers.
They have the medical staff at their disposal.
The services being promised shoukd be readily available at the health centers.
Sadly because of the poor service at the facilities the government is seeking to enhance its image and blot out the people’s impression of theor failure.
Hence they are seeking to take the services in the communities.
I have said it before and I will say it again.
Community health dates should be an initiative of the opposition party and parliamentarians.
It is a means of showing up in inefficiencies of the government.
When the government promotes those fairs they are agreeing with the opposition that the services at the facilities which should offer them are below standard.
It is also saying that the services are not what it should be.
The opposition should hammer those issues and expose the ineptitude of the government.
I wish to point out one example.
When one goes to the hospital it will take a minimum of six hours before one can see a doctor.
At the fair that will be vastly reduced.
One will see a doctor in an hour.a recommended test will be done in way less time than if it was recommended at the hospital.
A test in the radiology or diagnostic department which is normally scheduled five months after being prescribed by a doctor at the hospital will be done in a month coming from the fair.
Why can’t it be that way all the time?
It is testament to the poor service at the hospital and ineptitude of ministry officials.
