St Peter Heads to the Polls: By-Election Marks a Pivotal Moment for Constituency
Voters in the St Peter constituency will head to the polls on January 14, 2025, in a by-election triggered by the tragic death of long-serving MP Asot Michael late last year.
The election pits Rawdon Turner of the Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) against George Wehner of the United Progressive Party (UPP), both vying for the opportunity to represent the constituency in Parliament.
Representing the ruling ABLP, Rawdon Turner, a well-known architect and businessman, has centered his campaign on modernizing infrastructure, fostering economic growth, and strengthening community ties. Turner has highlighted his deep connection to the constituency, often stating that he was “raised by the village.”
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has thrown his full support behind Turner, describing him as a “homegrown talent” with the skills to propel St Peter into a new era of development. Turner’s manifesto, “Together with Turner,” outlines plans for sustainable development and job creation in the constituency.
The UPP candidate, George Wehner, is no stranger to political contests, having previously run for the St George seat in 2018. His campaign has emphasized addressing long-standing infrastructure issues, including poor road conditions and inadequate lighting, while calling for greater accountability and transparency in governance.
Wehner has been a vocal critic of the Gaston Browne administration, often framing his campaign as a fight against neglect and corruption. UPP Leader Jamale Pringle has lauded Wehner’s dedication, calling him a “hardworking and committed advocate” for the people of St Peter.
In the days leading up to the by-election, both candidates have engaged in intense ground campaigns. Turner has conducted walkthroughs across the constituency, emphasizing his vision for a brighter future, while Wehner has rallied UPP supporters with a call to action for change and accountability.
The by-election has also attracted significant national attention, with analysts describing it as a litmus test for both the ABLP and UPP ahead of the next general elections.
Polling stations open at 6:00 AM and close at 6:00 PM, with a high voter turnout expected. Election officials have assured the public of a smooth voting process, urging constituents to exercise their democratic rights.
The outcome will determine not only the next representative of St Peter but also the strength of the ruling and opposition parties in the broader political landscape.

The people of that constituency have been voting labour for a long time now, its a stronghold for the party they only voted Asot because they still considered him a labour stalwart so there will be no surprises so this by-election will prove nothing
I hope for goodness sake George Wehner wins this by election. Gaston only buys support, there is no genuine support for Gaston Browne. God save Antigua
Your “hope” is in vain! That’s like hoping that Pringle will wake up tomorrow with common sense and intellectual capacity…or should it be “ca-ca-ca-pa-see-tah”???
Hope elections not at Parham today 😩😩 have to do some work that’s side..🤣
This is part of UPP plan to rid them self of Wehner as a candidate so when he loses this one today they will advise him that he lost 2 elections and so he is not a viable candidate! Careful when they smile with you George them ah destroy you too 🤪
