St. Michael’s Primary tops RCA’s 2024 Book Reading Competition

Kelendria Hunte from the St. Michael’s Anglican School is the winner of the 2024 Rotary Club of Antigua’s annual Book Reading Competition.
The 10 year old emerged victorious in the Competition after impressing the team of judges following two rounds.
In the first round, the students were required to read a specified portion from this year’s featured book, “Timothy Pratt’s, Big Opportunity”, written by local author, Mrs. Jessie Grindley – Lewis. In the final half of the competition, the students were required to present a selected news item as a newscaster.
The activity, which took place at the Methodist Church Hall, saw the participation of eight students from eight public and private primary schools across the island.
The 2nd place position was awarded to Shanee Francis from the Five Islands Primary School, while Adalia Mills from the S.R. Olivia David Primary School was awarded third place.
The most promising reader went to Zorique Charles from the Sunnydale Primary School.
The other participating students in the competition were: Justis Floyde from Grace Christian Academy, Malachi John from Christian Union Junior Academy, Shakeel Matthew from the Green Bay Primary School and Zaier Matthew from the New Winthropes Primary School.
The competition’s judges were Mrs. Cathy- Ann Tonge-James, Mrs. Marcia Chatham and Ulric Smith.
Chairperson of the 2024 Book Reading, Rotarian Anastasia Wilson, congratulated all the participants and the winners on a job well done and hailed the competition as another literary success.
The Rotary Club of Antigua wishes to thank all of the sponsors and Rotarians who contributed to the various prizes presented to the students.
