Saint Lucia PM Mourns Two Women Killed in Anse Cochon Boat Collision

Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has extended condolences to the families of two young women killed in a late-night boat collision off Anse Cochon that also left 14 people injured and two others missing.

The collision occurred at approximately 11:55 p.m. Saturday when the vessel Ocean Angel collided with the pirogue Mango Tours off Saint Lucia’s western coast.

Police identified those killed as Mhakeida Nestor, 21, of La Fargue, Choiseul, and Debbie Dolor, 25, of Market Road, Soufrière.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia, I extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of Mhakeida Nestor and Debbie Dolor,” Pierre said. “We mourn with you during this time of immense grief.”

Preliminary investigations by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force indicate that Mango Tours was travelling south while Ocean Angel was heading north. Mango Tours sank following the impact, while Ocean Angel sustained significant damage.

Fourteen people were injured, while emergency responders continued searching Sunday for two people who remained unaccounted for.

Pierre said his thoughts were with the injured and the families awaiting news of their missing loved ones.

The prime minister commended the Police Marine Unit, Saint Lucia Fire Service, Coast Guard, medical personnel and others involved in the emergency response.

“The Government will continue to support the ongoing response and the investigations into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident,” Pierre said.

Police said the investigation and search-and-rescue operation remain ongoing.

  1. Everything is good until things go bad. With the other tragedy in Guyana people are now questioning the age of the boat. Little things happen right here in Antigua which we just accept until. Take that electrical advertising block on the side walk on Friars Hill Road outside the complex with the Larder. How on earth has this government allowed this happen where am advertising block takes up 3 quarters of a side and also creating a blind spot for persons coming out of that dirt side road is beyond me. This place is in such a mess and the monied class get away with plenty silly things. Until!!!! But then again they have friends in high places which will frustrate you in the court when seeking justice if anything happens.

I agree with your comment about the advertising board in the walkway it is pure nonsense… we are so backwards in this country.. like how someone could come out Dee’s gas station and cross the double line on airport road passing in front of cars to go to Picketts main road… there lawmakers are just dumb and greedy and most of there stomachs shows …
