Young people in St John’s Rural South are diving into a summer of creativity, learning and self-discovery as the district’s annual summer camp gets underway.
Now open for the season, the camp offers a wide-ranging programme that blends art, academics, motivation and movement, aimed at helping participants explore their interests and build confidence.
Workshops in painting, writing and fitness are among the core activities, delivered in a structured but flexible setting designed to foster both personal growth and community spirit.
“We believe every child deserves the opportunity to develop their skills and passions,” said the camp coordinator.
MP Daryll Matthew added: “This summer, we’re excited to see our campers embrace new challenges and connect with each other in meaningful ways.”
Organisers say the camp is more than a holiday diversion—it’s a platform for nurturing young talent and encouraging collaboration. Parents and community members have voiced strong support, highlighting its role in positive youth development.
With its blend of creativity and education, the summer initiative continues to shape the outlook of the region’s youth.

Not every child learns best in a classroom. Camps like these offer real-world learning that builds confidence, social skills, and purpose. We need more of this, not less.
If we’re serious about reducing crime, improving education, and building stronger communities, initiatives like this camp need to be funded and expanded. It’s not optional, it’s essential.
