The government will host a public consultation with property and business owners in the City of St. John’s on Wednesday, Jan. 29, as part of efforts to address long-standing infrastructure, sanitation and urban management concerns in the capital.
The City of St. John’s Consultation, organized by the St. John’s Development Corporation, is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the John E. St. Luce Conference Center on Sir Sydney Walling Highway.
According to the announcement, the consultation will focus on a range of citywide issues, including city aesthetics, garbage collection and disposal, curbs and drains, road infrastructure, littering, and the demolition of derelict buildings.
Several senior government officials are expected to participate, including Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Minister for Social and Urban Transformation Rawdon Turner, Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin, Minister of Housing and Works Maria Browne, and Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation and Investment Charles Max Fernandez.
The event is being promoted under the theme “Your City. Your Voice,” with organizers encouraging stakeholders in St. John’s to participate and share feedback on challenges affecting the city’s development and upkeep.
Persons wishing to attend are asked to RSVP by calling 268-785-5757.

Better late than never, once I heard a St. Lucian cussing some Antiguans outside Royal Bank about how tink and dutty Antigua is and if they wanted to see how a city should look go to Castries. I was so ashamed
Garbage collection and littering are long-standing problems that affect both residents and tourism. If this consultation can finally produce sustainable solutions, it will be a major step forward for St. John’s.
I hope the government considers input from ordinary citizens too, not only property and business owners. Urban renewal should benefit everyone, not just a select few.
Your City. Your Voice’ is a nice slogan, but we need to see concrete actions after the forum, not just speeches and photographs for social media
Good to see engagement instead of decisions made behind closed doors.
