The House of Representatives will meet in a special sitting Wednesday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Sir Robin Yearwood’s election to Parliament.
Sir Robin was first elected on Feb. 18, 1976, representing the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party under the leadership of Vere Cornwall Bird.
The ceremonial sitting is expected to feature tributes from fellow lawmakers. Governor General Sir Rodney Williams is also scheduled to attend and deliver remarks.
The session will open with the formal entry of the Speaker, prayers and the adoption of a motion to amend the Order Paper in accordance with the Standing Orders.

Is the House of Assembly a play house?
Is the Governor General a political toy?
What will be the sitting order with Governor General in parliament?
The Governor General is not attending parliament in his official role as the king’s representative.
The king has no business before parliament today.
He is attending strictly as a political figure.
This action in my opinion is bringing the role of the Governor General into serious disrepute.
The office of the Governor General, though politically appointed, is not a political one.
He is the conscience and moral compass of the nation.
Unsitting the Governor General from his office and taking him to parliament to show solidarity with a former colleague is outside of the role of the Governor General.
The Governor General’s office could as a measure of courtesy send a congratulatory message which would be read by the speaker or clerk of the house.
Then when they meet to drink Johnnie Walker Black and Blue and Red the Governor General will pat Sir Robin on the shoulder and say farewell.
It is not a joint session of parliament.
Let us all remember that the senate is the Upper House.
They to have to meet to formalize anything done in the lower house.
What happens when the senate meets for the same purpose.
Is the Governor General going to attend and deliver a speech also?
While parliament may be able to amend the order paper, it cannot amend the process, principles and procedures of parliament.
Tofays sitting is a blatant abuse and misuse of the hughest court of the land to flaunt the law with impunity and bring the office of the Governor General into serious disrepute.
I verily hope that His Majesty’s Loyal Oppositiin will not be party to such mockery and political circus.
