Government to Distribute Solar Lights to Help Farmers Improve Security and Work After Dark
Farmers across Antigua and Barbuda will begin receiving solar-powered lights under a government programme aimed at improving security on farms and allowing food producers to work safely after dark, Agriculture Minister Anthony Smith told Parliament.
Smith said the ministry has “secured and… is preparing mass distribution of solar lights… to farmers across Antigua and Barbuda”.
He said the lights will be provided and installed directly on farms “to help farmers with security”, noting that many producers face theft and poor visibility in remote areas.
The minister added that the initiative is also intended to make evening and nighttime farming easier, giving growers more flexibility during busy planting and harvesting periods.
The solar lights, he said, will help the country “move into that… new era of farming where farmers can farm in the evening [and] farm in the nighttime”.
Smith described the programme as part of the ministry’s broader effort to give farmers practical, immediate support as the sector works to strengthen food production nationwide.

I think the farmers should purchase some sim card equipped solar powered camera mounted on 30 3″ galvanize pipe or poles provided by Apua to monitor theft with images for police to work on.
The lights will only help the thieves seeing better.
