Smith to pursue legal action against Lovell over bribery claims
Parliamentary representative for All Saints West, Anthony Smith, says he will take legal action against former United Progressive Party (UPP) leader Harold Lovell following allegations made over the weekend.
Lovell claimed that Smith, who left the UPP earlier this year, was offered and accepted $6 million from the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) in exchange for his defection. He said he had evidence of a private phone call in which Smith admitted being approached with the offer.
The former UPP leader further suggested that Smith’s immediate appointment as Minister of Agriculture reinforced suspicions of a deal.
Smith has rejected the allegations, describing them as “baseless” and “malicious.” He insisted he has “never received a red cent” from the ABLP and confirmed he met with his lawyers on Monday morning to initiate proceedings against Lovell.
“I refuse to get involved in the dirty brand of politics Harold Lovell is trying to bring,” Smith said, while reaffirming his denial of any financial inducement.

Well your entry over the ALP side to save that government had worth slot, because asot bargain was for the position of prime minister, so giving $6 million to save the position of prime minister in Gaston favor is nothing. But then your worth was trashed when Pahram was eventually given to ALP following asot demise. The same money effect transpired during shoogie re-election. It was desperation because of a close election and robins health issue.
This is great news for those of us who have been following Anthony Smith’s defection from the UPP and also letting down the electorate that trusted him with their votes in All Saints West.
Hopefully, this litigation by Smith will open up and reveal the “whole truth and nothing but the truth”.
The Most Honourable Harold Lovell has definitely released the UPP fox in the ABLP hen house since returning to the political arena. Wonderful, just wonderful!
Smith’s current legal manoeuvre could leave him like a shaking TREMELLOSE jelly that may well backfire on him in the long run.

Damage friendships are a helluva thing. Trusting someone with your insecurities or past mistakes is powerful. It creates a real connection. But if there is a fallout, your vulnerability may be turned against you. Many have witnessed this in intimate relationships. What was once a safe confession may later resurface leaving you wounded by the person you once trusted. It doesn’t mean it is a lie. It is just a broken covenant. It just means that you always have to watch what you say and to whom. Today it might be safe and friendly ears. Tomorrow it might be a different story. As disappointing and betrayed as you might feel, no court would hammer a person for talking the truth. They will simply ascertain by the phone records that a call was made and as such anything could have been discussed. Stop wasting your time!
His time should be better spent concentrating on his Ministry. This is just a public relations exercise geared towards enhancing his unpopular status in the constituency while at the same time denigrating the eminent rise of Mr. Lovell as the future candidate.

Lovell is reckless but the truth will come out now, and as a lawyer Lovell should know that no indemnity can shield anyone from a lawsuit.

Anthony smith ain’t suing a soul… he said he have proof of Lovell using his clients money so I’m waiting to here of Lovell Counter suit for this libelous act… in fact this is more of a comedy special because we know they’re both not going to do nothing but talk and talk and talk
