A special ceremony at the Sir Wright George Police Academy on Tuesday celebrated six police officers for their outstanding commitment to law enforcement in Antigua and Barbuda.
National Security Minister and Attorney General, Sir Steadroy Benjamin, and Police Commissioner Atlee Rodney presided over the event, presenting the officers with Meritorious Awards in recognition of their exceptional service.
Commissioner Rodney commended the six officers, each with over 40 years in the police force, urging them to share their experiences to inspire colleagues. He highlighted the importance of reflecting on their journey and serving as role models within the organization.
The officers recognized for their long-standing contributions include:
- Clifton Cabral, Assistant Commissioner of Police, who joined on October 10, 1983.
- Brenda Jacobs, Assistant Superintendent and Quarter Master of the Stores, also enlisted on October 10, 1983.
- James Tonge, ASP of ‘A’ Division, who began his service on July 17, 1984.
- Adonis Henry, Inspector of Police for ‘C’ Division, who enlisted on December 15, 1984.
- Norman Parillon, Inspector of Police, who joined on January 16, 1984.
- Nigel Browne, Sergeant of Police, who started his career on November 2, 1984.
Sir Steadroy Benjamin and Regis Burton, a member of the Police Service Commission, extended their congratulations to the officers for their dedication and achievements.

Congratulations. Hope yoi can get your pension. Sometimes after working so hard no pension
This is a very long time congratulations to them hoping alot of our youth sees this
40 years of dedication to an establishment is a very long time it shows that you were and still are committed and I congratulate you all and wish you well
This is the same Cutie Benjamin that said he not promoting any police for long service.
And he Cutie have a whole ceremony for 6 people and give them awards for long service.
Molwyn Joseph, Cutie Benjamin, Col Trevor Thomas, Robin Yearwood and Lorna Simon were all knighted for forty years of service to the nation. Their tasks were never as tedious as those of the police. Why aren’t the police officers knighted for their forty years of service? When will they receive due recognition just as the others? Is their service any less valuable than that of those who were knighted?
Why should it be that after forty years of service a man has received only two promotions? Why should one be an Assistant Commissioner while another is just a Sergeant? Knowing all of the officers I will go on a limb and say that the most knowledgeable in the profession is the Sergeant. Why has he been so forgotten? Something is wrong. We have members of politicians family who are less than twenty years of service and are already Senior Sergeants and Inspectors. Where did it all go wrong for Sergeant Nigel Browne???
OH LAWD! …40-YEARS OF SERVICE: …MOCKERY WITH SENTIMENTALITY
These shall be taken a no idle comments.
BEEN THERE: …DONE THAT.’
NOW:
For the ‘Service of 40-Years,’ any officer being elevated to the ‘RANKS:’
(i) ‘…Assistant Commissioner of Police:
(ii) …Superintendent of Police:
(iii) …Assistant Superintendent of Police: or
(iv) …Inspector of Police,’ could feel both:
(a) ‘…A sense of pride: and
(b) …A sense of achievement.’
HOWEVER:
For the same ‘…SERVICE OF 40-YEARS,’ Law enforcers merely attaining the ‘…RANKS’ of
(a) ‘…Senior Sergeant of Police: or
(b) …Sergeant of Police,’ appeared to have been recognized by ‘…MOCKERY.’
FOR INSTANCE:
Given ‘…Temporary acting appointments to the ‘…Inspectorate Rank’ from ‘…OCTOBER 24, 2024 – February 11, 2025,’ is short-termed.
FORWARD, EVER: …BACKWARD, NEVER
For ‘…40-Years,’ this equates to ‘…ONE STEP FORWARD-2024: and – ONE STEP BACKWARD- 2025’ [Special Force Order: No. 19 0f 2024: December 1, 2024].
SUBSTANTIVE RANK:
The ‘…Substantive Rank’ remains the same as ‘…SENIOR SERGEANT.’
NOW: MERITORIOUS SERVICE
Those using the words: ‘…MERITORIOUS SERVICE,’ in the ‘Eyes of Humanity: and for ‘JUSTICE AND FAIRPLAY,’ in ‘…Real World of Law Enforcement,’ they could make themselves look ‘…SENTIMENTALITY STUPID.’
QUESTION
How could any administrator ‘…JUSTIFY’ the elevation to the ‘…Rank of INSPECTOR’ of some personnel, who have merely ‘…SERVED FOR 16-YEARS.’
RECOGNITION:
Logic shall have dictated that these are the likely ones to have been recognized for ‘…MERITORIOUS SERVICE.’
This too, may not only have been seen as ‘…Buffoonery,’ but also ‘…Cronyism and Administrative Robbery.’
STILL:
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL A SUNDRY.
KEEP THE FAITH [Paul Quin].
Congregations to you guys for your long service to the police force of which I was part of from 1980 -1987. Why is Nigel Brown still in the wilderness. Is it because he is not part of the Gang of political police officers who said (now is our time) when ABLP won the election? Injustice will never Done.Keep the faith Nigel Brown.I pray the God of heaven will shine over you for a higher Rank before you Retire. The same injustice was done to John Pell.May his soul rest in peace.
Three colored emblems one with oakleaves having the highest rank…..Two made it to level four and got rid of the old colors…One seems to not have done enough hard work or is being left behind due to badmind….Hope u make it out them colors soon Sgt Browne congratulations to all and thank you for your long dedicated years of service…
Sergeant Browne, perhaps u r not in that clique of carrying news, back stabbing your peers and display biological deficiencies on the job like others do to get such promotion.
Persons in other establishments face the same fate.
I tip my hat to you. You have done the right thing to exercise wisdom. Keep holding on to faith. brother., you have a family. to support. Surprisingly your salary may have more value than those in the higher ranks..
