Sir Ronald Sanders awarded the Order of Merit of Ukraine

The Embassy of Antigua and Barbuda is pleased to issue the following announcement.

On 24 August 2025, the President of Ukraine, His Excellency Volodymyr Zelensky, decreed that “The Order of Merit of Ukraine” is awarded to Sir Ronald Sanders, Ambassador of Antigua and Barbuda to the United States of America, “for a significant contribution to strengthening interstate cooperation, supporting the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”.

The award will be formally presented to Sir Ronald at a ceremony in Washington, DC, in September.

Sir Ronald has advocated for upholding Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in international fora, including the Organization of American States, where he piloted resolutions and declarations to support Ukraine. He has also frequently written in his weekly syndicated column, detailing the case for global support of the Ukrainian people.

Sir Ronald said, “I am greatly honoured by the award from President Zelensky.  I regard it as an award not only to me but to my Government in Antigua and Barbuda for its stance in standing up for the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter and international law.”

He added that “the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people against superior odds to maintain their autonomy and identity is an example to all small states that are confronted with unfairness and injustice”.

  1. Congrats to Sir Ronal Sanders for having received this award. You are a real top diplomat and you let our Country shine in the diplomatic world. In short time you were able to have the OAS have their meeting here in Antigua and Barbuda. Which was truly a successful and wonderful experience for our country. All the best in your future endeavors.

I am confused, the prime minister is with Venezuela and this opportunist Ron saunders is romanticizing his upward mobility with a member of the ethno supremacists club under the auspicies of Antigua and Barbuda, oops! Ron saunders is Guyanese, so there is no loyalty to ANTIGUA, he couldn’t get no ambassador job to represent no white country or Guyana, he likes to infantilized the ALP politicians because they can’t function without white validation on the world stage.

  9. Many commentators on here forget that when the war between Ukraine and Russia was about to commence (and forgive me for bringing this up again on ANR), many black people tried to flee the Ukraine.

    However the Ukrainians are well known for their far-right views, left many people of colour to fend for themselves to try and get out of the country. Some of the horrific details and discriminatory details were downright racist.

    A simple Google (or other online platforms) will reveal many disturbing recollections.

    So this so-called award to Ronald Sanders who’s supposed to represent Antigua & Barbuda is rather baffling to say the least.
