Sir Molwyn Joseph has called for curriculum reform in Antigua and Barbuda’s education system to include a greater focus on Black history and cultural identity, arguing that young people must be taught their heritage to understand their value.
“This cannot be all academic,” the Health Minister said during debate on the Antigua and Barbuda College of Advanced Studies (ABCAS) Bill 2025. “There has to be a holistic educational programme. One of the things our people do not know is their own history. And I’m not talking about Columbus.”
He warned that students who are not taught about their ancestors’ contributions to civilisation risk internalising negative perceptions. “If you do not know where you’re from, and you do not know what you have contributed to history, you tend to devalue your worth.”
Sir Molwyn said the inclusion of identity, pride, and heritage must go hand-in-hand with efforts to modernise science and technical training. “They need to develop the sense of history of themselves, self-worth,” he said, calling for elective courses that explore Afro-Caribbean history and the accomplishments of African-descended peoples.
He stressed that an educational framework rooted only in technical or academic achievement falls short. “You can’t sustain a society purely on degrees. You have to build a people who understand who they are.”
The ABCAS Bill, which consolidates four existing institutions into one statutory college, was passed with bipartisan support. Sir Molwyn praised the legislation as part of a “revolutionary” step toward expanding and modernising the country’s education system.
The Minister also highlighted broader equity goals, including universal early childhood education and support for students with developmental delays. But he returned to cultural identity as a foundational element.
“This is not just about jobs,” he said. “It’s about building a society.”

Dear elite jurists.. How about some time dedicated to understanding true black history? With all the brain power in elite legal circles is there not even one amongst you who can step out with confidence and tell the world something is wrong with our history and even the reckoning of time? Twin issue- 1. skin color, and 2. time. If we can truly accept such a powerful connection- it would be easy to accept black / melanated people ruled the planet for 5,800/ (* 4800) years out of 6000 / (* 5000) years to an intelligent black Adam BCE 4000. During the 1700s when the planet was 99 percent black, the population was 650 million. The 1 percent whites [ today under 8 percent of 8.2 billion people ] they lived in Caucasus caves and the Ural Mountains in the 1700s (*700s). TO THE NAYSAYERS:
1. On the Theory of Evolution how long does it take to make 150 million people living during the time of a black Christ – 1000 to 2000 years ago? The UN has confirmed this number of 150m. Bible folk say 2400 years from the Great Flood and the silly Evolutionist wants us to believe it took hundreds of thousands and even millions of years to make 150 million people?
2. If history is to be believed why is there only 8 percent whites globally? Should be 80 to 90 percent based on global whitewashed art and history. Do you realize the planet today of 8.2 billion is still mostly black/ melanated? If you factor in 200 to 300 million blacks (whether African or better yet indigenous black indians / black Europeans) murdered over the last 300 to 500 years our global population should be above 12 billion by now and blacks easily over 80 percent of that number.
Sad to see most of our textbooks are based on racist whitewashed history and silly & corrupt science which makes no sense. Shave a monkey when you have a chance, you will not find 1 drop of melanin as blacks / mankind do not come from animals.
