The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) has completed its 12th kidney transplant, offering renewed hope to a patient and their family.
The hospital, which runs the only transplant programme in the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), said it remains committed to delivering specialised healthcare locally.
SLBMC thanked its medical team and visiting transplant surgeon Dr Obi Ekwenna for their contributions to the milestone procedure.
“This is a life-changing moment for the patient and a proud achievement for our healthcare system,” the hospital said in a statement.

Commendations are in order
Healing is the ultimate measure of revealing. My heartfelt Congratulations to the medical team; with hopeful contentment, and wonderful relief to the concerning recipients.
Great milestone—but do we have enough donors stepping forward? That’s the real challenge.
Hope this milestone means more community awareness about donating organs.
Nice Job!!
Great milestone for SLBMC
