Shugy shares that his youth-development plans for St. Mary’s South include vocational education and character-building

REAL NEWS – With so many instances of negative youth-related activities taking place in the country, youth development in St. Mary’s South continues to be a main area of focus for United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate Kelvin “Shugy” Simon.

 

Without going into detail about his plans for young people in the constituency’s communities, Simon says vocational training is an important aspect of development, since not everyone is inclined toward academics.

 

While some young people are masters with books, others are very good with their hands, and they should not be written off, he says.

 

Instead, all options must be explored in order to reach the youth – not only of the constituency, but the country.

 

But the UPP candidate explains that he is reluctant to share too much about his approach for fear that his ideas will be poached by the Antigua Labour Party and its candidate.

 

Meanwhile, Simon says the Gaston Browne Administration has failed this country’s youth.

 

He notes that not one programme has been set up in St. Mary’s South to keep young people off the street corners and steer them away from criminal activities.

 

The former St. Mary’s South MP says character-building is also an important part of youth development and training, and he intends to focus on this aspect to go hand-in-hand with education.
