And while I offer free advice to the UPP on their candidates, they should also engage the interest of both Ms. Jacquie Quinn, and Ms. Shawn Nicholas. Those two highly educated ladies will give the party much more diversity and depth. A word to the wise in the UPP.

I certainly think he should run again … and if Jacquie Quinn and Shawn Nicholas are interested…they too should return to battle…the dept of the party would be increase ten fold…
If you notice the ABLP is mobilizing …replacing its worn out and aged candidates preparing for any BI-ELECTION and the next General election…
At this Leadership is critical….and itz clear that the UPP is lacking in this department and need to resolve this issue now…who will be the new leader of the UPP? With Lovell return…should he leads UPP for one last battle?
Or should the Party look towards Richard Lewis who challenged Lovell once…because certainly Pringle definitely at this juncture is not an option.
The UPP cannot afford to fall asleep now ….they have keep their lamp oiled….and ready for any surprises…which is a tactic used by the ABLP…
So start your recruiting now…discard who need discarding….keep the prospects..remember this is not a popularity contest and the big people party is a fund raising tool that’s all..

When you are leader, you lead. You will make mistakes, but that is part of it. If you surrender your power to the led, then you will be sidelined.
That is what the party chairman did to him. She did not try to keep him around even to the convention, because she had other ideas of controlling the top spot. Harold is an intelligent man. I sat in class with him. He is also very knowledgeable and has a wealth of experience.
He does not have the current leader’s brashness and swagger. But some of that is needed in a leader. We know this one has too much and that is one of the major problems in the country.
It is surprising to see Harold being such a dress back guy. In school he was the one we looked to for leadership in school matters and later in our many battles with the government. He was fearless.
Maybe he is tired of fighting. But he needs to either put up or shut up and walk away quietly. If he wants to be around, he knows his boys will have his back. We need the change bad. But if he is going to let Giselle continue to call the shots and hide him again, then he will not get the support that is building out there for him to return.
There are many of us who want his leadership, but to make a comeback, he must want it more than we do.
Talking about the ladies, there should be diversity, but not for its sake. Both of the women mentioned have run their course. Not much depth there. Time to seek out more innovative and appealing female talent in the party. If he looks around he will find, perhaps not in the party at the moment but those can come in and make the difference.
It is time for the UPP to break from the same-old and reach for some sunlight that will lead to leadership of the country.
Here’s a suggestion. Why not run Lovell and Lewis as a ticket item? One moving out, the other taking over. Both with skill sets that would be very good for the UPP.
School children say that this was the plan in 2018 until the Lipstick one decided no way. Lovell backed down and it is hell since then for the UPP.
@Lovell-Lewis Ticket? Lewis is too much of an independent thinker with his own ideas for moving the party and country forward to be ever considered by those who are pulling the strings in the back. Don’t you notice the type of candidates they go after–candidates who they have to “coach” and give talking points to. Richard will also not put up with partnering with Asot Michael, whom the party vehemently tried to convict for corruption between 2004-2014. I predict there will be a nasty end to the leadership battle, resulting in Richard departing from the Party he helped to build. I don’t forebode he joins the ABLP due to significant policy differences, but the UPP is going in a direction that many of the more capable individuals in the party are finding it harder to be successful.
No. Lovell has had his time. He cannot win. Put him in the senate and maybe give him a ministry. To be quite honest, I think Shuggy should be the next UPP leader. Young, intelligent, charismatic, has good intentions for the people and has just put a good cut-ass on Gaston Browne. If not Shuggy then Richard Lewis.
Why not just bring back the whole squad that was once governing this country. You are referring to six votes, but have you considered the number of losses this guy has accumulated as a politician? Get real! It’s Popy-day so continue to Popy show you self.
The realistic contenders for UPP leader are few. Pringle is not one of them. He is verbally illiterate and not capable. Serpent is Serpent and he is not leadership material. Bowen is an obvious no. Quinn is a nice lady but she is not leadership material. Smith is not ready for leadership as yet. The only two are Lewis and Shuggy as these two gentlemen are intelligent, educated, speak well and seem to be good and decent human beings. Shuggy has more charisma and likeability and draws people to him because of his personality and character. If UPP wants to win, they need a leader whose personality and character draws people to him and the party and away from Gaston’s brash, braggadocious personality. That is Shuggy. Lovell never had that charisma and likeability. That was his problem.
That’s a call for UPP and this is a decision they need to rectified soonest. Meanwhile the ABLP is recruiting mobilizing preparing for long term campaigning until that time come, in my mind keeping no stone unturned.
Why is Gaston feel so threatened by Lovel?
@smh, you’re delusional if you think anyone feels threatened by a perennial loser. Lovell won in 2004 and 2009 because of the national swing towards the UPP. If he was that stellar of a politician as many of us were so foolish to believe, he would have held on to his seat in 2014 or even win back in 2018 as leader. His lost as leader back in 2018 should have been the kick up the ass the party needed to move in a new direction, but alas, they continued the same path. And you all want him to be leader and run again?
He lost by 1 (at last election), so objectively, it would be reasonable and prudent for him to be given the chance to run, if he wants, or for him to support the new candidate in within the political party.
Yes! Yes! Yes! Harold Lovell should run again. However, he MUST not disrupt the young coalition, of Pringle, Bowen, Serpent, Shugy, Lewis. Harold must be man enough, to run, but take a back seat in terms, of being the leader of the UPP. Just bring his expertise, chillax for a term or two once he wins in City East. He can then go after the Leadership of the Party(the age thing is irrelevant, he’ll be even more seasoned and poised to take the helm as Captain, of the Nation’s ship).
This brings me to the point, of term limits.
The Nation is in dire need, of #TERM_LIMITS.
A…two(2) years as PM’s position, consecutive or not
B…four(4) years for any Member of Parliament, consecutive or not.
Now, since some of these will or may require from referendum(s) to Constitutional Amendments, how about adding these two, as well.
(C)…Two(2) conservatives terms for the Governor General, until we fire the Monarchy.
(D)…The shortage of viable, qualified Candidates who are willing and able to run and contest a seat in the Parliament can be solved, by allowing ALL ANTIGUANS, BARBUDANS & REDONDANS to run for such office, regardless, if they reside outside, of the Nation.
The only stipulation should be, a two(2) continuous residency, in the Nation.
How many, of the present crop of Parliamentarians or prospective Parliamentarians live in the Communities which they are either #Caretakers for, or is the Representative in the Parliament.
(E)…The SENATE/Upper House Members, MUST be elected, by the electorate and not selected, by party guidelines, favoritism etc.

Furthermore, Harold has obviously noticed that the political landscape has markedly improved in favour of the UPP, especially after fantastic victory in St Mary’s South by the up and coming Kelvin Shugy Simon.

ABLP supporters writing comments encouraging Harold to run knowing he will probably lose again as his winning track record is poor. Don’t be fooled by the encouraging comments. They are wolf in sheep’s clothing.
@Klandestine, I guarantee you that majority of those encouraging Harold to run are UPP supporters. In fact, those in leadership positions are actively seeking a way to bring him back. Harold has a hold on the UPP membership, and until they cut ties and let go the perennial loser, the party will remain in a rot. I contend that the worst outcome for the UPP in the January election was the near lost. They now feel that what they have been doing has worked and will only now double down. Look for Harold to contest the leadership race and people like Richard to be ostracized.

ABS news last night came right off Point FM and the tone presented with the PM was awful. You are really using the nation’s resources as your football.
The question is asked if Harold should run again. I would say no. Reasons have absolutely nothing to do with his age. Someone with his age can present to his party and the electorate a good bill of health I will not have a problem with that. My problem is that he ran 11 times and won twice. Even as political leader- would become PM he has been rejected.
I also heard PM Brown saying that people over fifty should not be entering politics and called Serpent old. Sounds as the one man band leader of ABLP he is not going to allow anyone in their sixties run on ABLP Ticket. Does the ABLP Party has a constitution or is Gaston the constitution.
My preference is a mixture , a nice balance. The problem is that these senators in ABLP are not speaking up. They all sit there and allow GB to roll raid what ever he wants over this country.
He is allowed to go on his radio station and abuse civil service and absolutely. He called people all sorts of Ill names, give out the Cabinet Secetary telephone number on his radio station. He has a Ministry and minister of Public Utilities, a senior member of his cabinet and here is he telling the Antiguan public that he is making all the utility decisions. He called out Telemaque salary of 27,000.00 per month and Sharmane Quinland salary of 25,000.00 per month on his radio. Is this the type of leader we want. They he has 3 former UPP opportunists singing he praises. He has surrounded himself with these people- paying them more than the director and PS in the ministry they operate. Chairing board, appointing them as ministers and senate and you good for nothing MPs have people campaigning for you, working their butts of in your constituencies- educated , young ABLP die heart supporters, from the bowels of Labour remaining your floor clothes.
ABLP had men and women like John Mede , stalwarts that had no intention to run for political office appointed yo the senate.
So the only the Barbudan people has the balls to stand up to this dictatorship style of government.
