St. Mary’s South MP Kelvin “Shugy” Simon plans to visit Trinidad and Tobago to study how Carnival has been turned into a major economic driver, with the aim of applying lessons to Antigua and Barbuda’s summer festival.
Simon said the trip will focus on intellectual property protections for creatives and on how Trinidad markets Carnival as a national economic season that boosts tourism and business activity. While calling Antigua’s Carnival “second to none,” he said stronger planning, marketing and cultural infrastructure are needed to elevate its global profile.
He also urged greater regional collaboration through CARICOM, saying Trinidad’s long-term approach offers a model for expanding the festival’s economic and cultural impact.

I wish you people would be as concerned about the millions we spent on the upkeep of the Alfa Nero, the hundreds of thousands in legal fees for the PM who is accused of skulldugery and the recovery of the millions they have stolen through their vehicle rustling, as much as your interest in Shuggy. What he’s doing isn’t costing us a single cent.

You don’t need to go for what he says he is going for. I understand if he says he is going to network, I would have called that brilliant. But to “study how Carnival has been turned into a major economic driver”, even the blind know what to do to do that. It is just not being done in Antigua and Barbuda. So there is nothing to learn there that isn’t already known in Antigua. It may be the networking that is needed and can be achieved by going.
However, it may be important for him to attend since his party is not running the government and he would be better suited to go than an MP from the political party leading the country right now.
Other than that, priority wouldn’t be given for such appearance at such event.
Strategically, this much traveling for events like these will mostlikely backfire on him, MP. Simon..
To many many pre shows that not beneficial to the government for roads and clean up, let them come in right after carnival or give more revenge to the government if it’s pre shows.

Anyway while you wish to focus on the expense for the boat, thinking persons would focus on the net (29 million usd after all boat expenses paid) of the 40 million usd total. Along with a net (29 million) which has been used to pay down our national debt (eg 16 million usd to ECCB advances, ECCB debentures 2.9 million.. ), we also prevented a disaster from happening from an abandoned ship sinking in our harbor
