Since January 2023, MP Algernon Watts has received tens of thousands of dollars in constituency allowances to operate his office in St. George.
Despite this, by May 2025, he was evicted after failing to pay $12,000 in rent since August 2024, ignoring multiple reminders from the landlord.

During this time, Ms. Jasmine Henry, an educator, paid Serpent $800 monthly to use part of his office for an after-school program to benefit the youth in the area.
She also maintained the property by repairing the air conditioning and tending the lawn at her own expense.
Her dedication was driven by a genuine desire to support the community, yet she was left without a place to continue her work after the eviction, even though she fulfilled her agreement with Serpent.

Adding to concerns, branch members and volunteers believed that earnings from the local “Big People Party” event were supposed to help cover expenses, including rent.
These unkept promises helped erode trust in leadership that was supposed to serve the people.

In a positive move, Senator Michael Freeland, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) Caretaker for St. George, leased the building starting June 1, 2025.
This ensures that community programs—especially Ms. Henry’s educational initiatives—can continue without disruption, demonstrating true leadership and a commitment to service.
This story serves as a reminder: false promises and neglect reveal true character.
Leadership is about responsibility and service, not just empty words.
The so-called “serpent” behind the facade has shown its true nature—favoring self-interest over the people it was meant to serve.

Look at wickedness……this is who y’all really voted for ? Taking the ladies 800 a month and not paying the rent murder . Why he couldn’t give her for free because she is helping the community. A lil stipend is all she gets
does this suprise you??? Remember how Serpent CUSS OUT THE MOTHER THAT ASK HIM FOR HELP TO PAY CXCs FOR HER CHILD??? And he did it on Facebook Live too
TO BE CLEAR (to those anxious for clarafificalthon) the Jasmine Henry mentioned is NOT the Jasmine Henry of Upper Gambles, St. John’s, Antigua. Please keep this Jasmine Henry out of your stinking, biased, deceitful politics! Please and thank you!!!!
Gaston min say de first thing Serpent do days after he win he seat was check him for duty free and full tax write off to buy a luxury jeep. Then serpent turn around and cuss his constituent who asked him for assistance to pay for cxc subjects. UPP nah go talk bout dis cuz they need observer radio and it’s newsroom to control.
me wonder if he don get de 1 acre of cheap land from gaston yet?????
So shameful. Just 1500 a month and the woman was paying half. Where da money gone? Is observer also being robbed by its managing director?
If subben go so it no sound nar look good
But wait a he a da first to do subben like that u ppl r such hypocrites
It’s good that you clarified, but where in this story is there deceitful politics?
In any event no one really cares. The people who knows both parties will know who the real person is.
Base on this article, it seems as if some under hand transaction took place to make the ABLP candidate for the area look good. So they can win the seat!!!!
Another strategic move by the great ABLP!
It is interesting how the editor articulate this news… Only the unbiased readers will get my point.
Hmmmmmm
@ Chups ANU
Soooooo Serpent didn’t pay his rent and some under hand transaction took place to make the ABLP candidate for the area look good?
Father Jesus help us all…
The other question that should be asked is if Serpent had the landlord’s permission to be subletting?
@ Faithful National 1- You see anyone mentioning the damn woman? Ya just nuff.
@Tiff, if your morals are defined by what other people have done it, then woe be onto you.
@Chups ANU- The UNDERHANDED transaction is that Serpent nah min deh a pay rent!!!!!!!!
If you are renting to someone and dem nah pay, you have the right to lease your place to someone else!!!!
What is $1500?????!!! He should have waived the fees to the good lady in the name of community development but alas, he got constituency allowance and the lady was paying $800 and he still couldn’t keep up with the payments.
This kind of person cannot manage a sweetie shop much less a constituency or country.
First question:
Jasmine Henry, to whom did you pay rent?
Did you ever make a cheque payable to Serpent??
No. No. No. No.
Did you not receive information long before an eviction notice that Serpent was no longer interested in the property and that should you desire to continue you should pay the rent or have the building returned to the landlord?
While the uneducated will make this a personal attack against Serpent, Antiguans should see it as the leader and his puppet’s driving a nail in the UPP’s coffin.
It is sad that a party which had come so close to winning governance is the first burial in the new cemetery at Tomilson.
I feel sorry for the elderly folks who are being dragged into deep waters or a firery furnace by the useless leader and his puppet mistress and her inner circle.
Antigua needs a new political party.
Selfish Pringle and wealthy Dame Gissy can add murder to their resume.
Two millionaires taking old fooly folks into dense forest and leaving them to find their watch back home.
If laboRATs were intelligent people they would not make connections between constituency allowances and the inability to pay rent.
The office had to have been manned.
Certainly not for free.
Work without payment is slavery.
Serpent surely wasn’t going to enslave anyone.
A worker is worth more than $1500.00 per month. So more from his personal funds had to be add to the constituency allowance to pay a single worker to keep the branch office open.
Then a sum equal to the constituency allowance which Serpent had to get from his personal funds was needed to pay the rent.
LaboRATs put your brains in gear before you begin to run your mouth like a running pipe.
It is good to support your party.
However don’t be a back side.
Miss Knight, where is the big jarz that Joan say u wear? U wash it yet for the month?
@ I sense biased
Are there unbiased people on these blogs?
Really? Hmmmm.m
Hmmm and Serpent really has the audacity to be calling people out on not paying their debts? Well I suppose he can consider himself an authority on the matter! Hmmmmmm!!!
What the treasurer did with the monthly contribution money pick up from the branch members? The constituency has several events that raises funds, and constitute living overseas make contributions of both materials and funds. Isn’t the constituency received $2,000 monthly from my government for constituency allowance?
I thought the ABLP has their own branch building in Potters. It seems that they have eyeing that building. The people with the deeper picket will always won.
Mr Watts, call a branch meeting to get to the bottom why the rent wasn’t paid on time. The person(s) who manage the constituency finances need to explain the financial conditions for 2023 to 2024, and first two quarters of 2025.
YOU CAN’T EVEN PAY YOUR RENT AND YOU WANT TO RUN THIS COUNTRY. YOU PEOPLE BETTER THINK 🤔
I met Serpent when he would stand in front of Batta and denigrate, disparage and abuse women if they dare not answer his wolf calls and his lewd off handed comments. There’s a lot more bad coming his way. Eviction is just the tip of the iceberg.
What does the HON. JAMLE PRINGLE have to say about this??? Is he going to issue another Press Release distancing himself from the snake? Pringle you being too soft on those 3 rogue MPs. Should have disciplined them long time ago.
Serpent is a real serpent…..deceptive, sly, slithering and evil.
Look drama
Now this is what you call politrix lol.
It is not a shame people get evicted everyday just the other day Gaston/government workers were locked out by Ryan and they are in charge of the country and don’t have money to pay.
So it is ok that the opposition get locked out too that doesn’t have the money as the ruling party has. Well well wel
So to be clear, the opposition MP was profiting from the after-school program and was given money to pay the rent but chose not to. Community leaders doing this kind of crap and you wonder why some people like to live in other people’s property and don’t want to pay for the privilege. Such a damn shame and disgrace.
